Just downgraded my @*&^ Comcast cable tv: saving>$35/month!
I am so pissed by Denver's Comcast, which almost makes TCI, AT&T and all the other cable versions in previous years look honest. I was automatically upgraded (I have auto pay in place) to a plan that exceeded $50/month when they bought out AT&T. I didn't even know, until I started looking at bank statements. Besides the cost, I am so offended by all the right wing BS on tv, this was the last straw.:grr:

Ahh, liberation. $13.40 + tax per month for channels 2-22, analog. I'd have installed an antenna if I thought that would have sufficed! Welcome back my own time, walks with the dog, radio, internet.

BTW, if anyone wants to take my lead, they will NOT tell you that this level of service is available. I found out from a colleague at the Denver telecommunications government office and had to demand the little twerp look it up. His distain for my "cheapness" was palpable. :nuke:

1. hello fellow Comcast subscriber and cheapster
Me too! Anyway I can cheap out on these r-w creeps sounds good to me.

Actually, awhile back I did an analysis and found I could save a good amount of money by going with Verizon DSL and DISH. Was planning to make the change this month.

8. DSL providers are next on my list...
I've had qwest since its inception here. Only way I'd feel good about what I'm paying is if they sent someone over with a gun each month to collect. I'd be interested in hearing what you are getting with Verizon (my cell is with them).

12. There's a union issue with Verizon

You might hold off signing up until they get it resolved. If it hasn't already it may become a strike. I was going to look at them for DSL but am avoiding it for now because I won't cross a picket line.

2. We did the same thing in Minneapolis (Time Warner) about a year ago
I think cable companies are required to provide an "affordable" package, but they sure as hell don't want anyone to know about it. We had to threaten to cancel our service altogether before they'd admit there was a cheaper package. Scum.

3. My Charter Rate Just Creeps Up
It's a real thrill to open the bill each month and see how much they're soaking me. I'd drop to the lowest rate, but they have Comedy Central on Expanded Basic, rather than basic basic. Other than the Daily Show and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network there's not really much on.

4. OMG...I just finished chewing them out.
My bill went from 52 bucks to 68 bucks to 75 bucks!!!!!! I had to Interrogate them for them to tell me about Analog service, with HBO added (it's like 5 bucks cheaper). What ever happened to free market competition driving prices DOWN...since I can't get Direct TV, or Adelphia in my neighborhood, these scumbags can bleed me dry. Lucky us entertainment folks can write things like cable off on our taxes.

13. They won't allow a dish in my apt.
My old, crazy, landlady probably wouldn't let anyone on the roof, and she might have some 'deal' with the comcast folks.

I still don't believe the B.S. that cable companies are unable to allow you to pay X amount for X amount of channels that YOU pick.

Obviously, some folks love sports and want ESPN 1 through 9 ;) , others are news junkies, others watch every decorating show ever broadcast on HGTV and TLC, and still others want every music video channel available because they are trying to find music video channels that actually still show videos.

So, why can't WE pick what channels we want?

7. I was roped into extra channels with my broadband service
I have Comcast broadband and had to get a more advanced TV channel lineup than I wanted in order to get a better deal (a temporary 6 month offer where the internet access is half price). The price gets jacked up at the end of the six months, of course. I think Comcast's goal is to get me "addicted" to these channels so after the six months are over I'll keep them. Fat chance.

I wish they would give me an ala carte selection - I'd be perfectly happy with the two TV channels I do watch (I only tune into three programs and since those are all on reruns I'm having a quiet TV-free summer which is very nice - I read books, play with my kid and work on home projects) and the internet service. I never bother with any of the other stupid shit on television. Once the shows I do watch go off the air I plan to give up TV; it's now mostly right-wing spin, celebrity bullshit (ten hours of pointless, mindsucking blather about Kobe Bryant, anyone?), brain-dead reality shows ("Who wants to marry my dog?"), and endless advertising/marketing ploys. No wonder Comcast has to resort to gimmicks to get people to sign up for more channels!

11. Doing the same, except with Time Warner
Ten dollars and change for "lifeline" service is enough TV for me, especially since the C-SPANs are included. Gotta keep my high speed connection though, which is another $40 on top of that a month.

14. Right now I'm watching a news broadcast about comcast
A class-action suit has just been filed against them for fraud and excessive-billing practises(?)... have to watch more.
Seems phone-hackers are using an anwering-nachine scam to place long-distance phone calls around the globe from people's #'s. Comcast admits the people have been hacked for as much as $20,000 in calls.
Seems they're making them pay anyways.
