I think I may need to take up a martial art.
It would be very cool to know how to kick arse.

And if I could look like this chick while doing it, all the better. ;)

Don't try to hit tai chi people. It only makes you hit the ground harder. :D

11. Okay

It's not true, though.

For one, most Chinese 'kung fu' styles (almost all, that I know of and have trained in) include chin na, or grappling, with heavy emphasis on nerve strikes and similar techniques at advanced levels. Bruce Lee, for that matter, incorporated a great deal of grappling into his personal style, jeet kune do.

Sure, once a really good wrestler/grappler gets hold of a person whose greater strengths are kicking and punching, it's a sticky situation (to say the least). The equation changes quite drastically if the kick-punch dude is also trained such that his or her chin na skills or sticky-hands-style attributes are actually useful and, of course, the wrestler has to penetrate the zones encompassed by full leg and arm extension on a very fast and mobile fighter and, even then, may be facing a very skilled infighter.

Wrestling was never my strength, but I've sparred against people who were good at wrestling and similar (ju jitsu, judo, shuai chiao, etc) and they can be beaten or evaded just like anyone else. Black-and-white statements usually have no validity and in martial arts (and in just plain fighting) the shades of gray are particularly intricately painted.

12. (shrug) In my experience with submissions sparring, the wrestlers win essentially every time.
