Has anybody here been to Medora North Dakota--and seen the musical?

I just got back from ten days of bid-ness in NoDak, and the salesman (a good guy, but a republican) took me to the Medora musical. For the record, it is a classic tourist-trap-y kind of thing, that comes complete with a steak fondue. Plus I had never actually been to live theater, so I was intrigued.

I know my gay friends here on DU will know I mean this in a totally non-offensive way, so I hope the rest of you will as well, but that musical was simultaneously the gayest and most patriotic-red-state-flag-waving-thing I have ever witnessed. I'd never thought about it before, but seeing the Burning Hills Singers get up and do their choreographed boot scootin' dressed up like slick cowboys made me relaize that if you dress up a man (especailly a tall lithe one) like a cowboy, well, it's just pretty much impossible for him to look even remotely heterosexual.

I got the feeling that that was lost on most of the crowd. For one number the guys came out dressed like the construction worker from the Village People--in case we were missing the hints!

I actually had a pretty good time, but I spent most of it trying to figure out if the performers felt all the "God and Country" lines they had to say, or if they were just that professional.

On a side note: The North Dakota Badlands are spectacular, Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a true gem. North Dakota is in fact extremely scenic--but you must get used to seeing for miles with no trees to block the panorama.
