1. TommyO raises his hand!
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 06:33 PM by TommyO
I was getting all teary eyed when I saw the previews for this week's show, I don't know how I'm going to make it through. My dad died almost eight years ago, and this season is bringing a lot of memories to the surface again.

edited to add: and then Kathy says something so outrageous that I burst out laughing while the tears are still flowing.

13. My dad died in April
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 07:35 PM by LibraLiz1973
When I first heard Kathy's dad died, I was so sad.. he seemed like such an awesome guy.

Then when I watched the episode where she talked about it and she said something like "And then it was here, the moment I'd been terrified of my entire life"
I literally started sobbing because it was like she put into words exactly what I had felt when my dad died. There is no way to explain it except to
say there was a BEFORE my dad died, and a COMPLETELY different after. It's like a different world.

You can see in each episode after the death of her father, she is still very emotional about it.

This season (while awesome!) was hard for me to watch because it did bring so many emotions up.

16. I'm sorry, Liz.

Yeah, that episode had me and the bf crying, and we're both lucky enough to still have our fathers. But I know what she means - it's a moment I've feared my whole life.

29. Boyfriend? You're one of Kathy's gays, just like me!
Now I just need to see her perform live, the only show that's convenient for me is one she has coming up in CT, though you never know what might be added to her tour.

27. That episode was so heartbreaking.
I lost my dad 30 years ago, but now and then, the feelings come back, and they just knock me out. Her dad was a sweetheart.

My late condolences to you, Liz.

28. I had always said that one of my biggest fears was my father dying
so I can truly identify with what Kathy said. Tonight's episode wasn't the tear-jerker that I thought it would be for me, but it was extremely emotional.

Now I just hope she wins that Emmy!

I want to be Kathy's friend. She and I are very similar. I felt so terrible when she lost her dad. He was a really fun, sweet man. And her mom is a freaking hoot.
Have you been to her site?

She's a new-found love.

Watched her "My Life on the D-List" for the first time just a few weeks ago, and now I adore her. The BF and I have watched every episode we can find, as well as some of her comedy specials. She's just brilliant.

18. While that was just as funny, her stand-up before that one had a bit
that had me and the Mr., until this day, in tears whenever we talk about it.

Kathy told a story about when she appeared on "Hollywood Squares" with Anna Nicole, Little Richard and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. I won't even try to repeat what went down because my repeating it would not do her story any justice. Funniest. Shit. EVAH.

I do think it's funny how she is basically making fun of her status...basically making fun of herself...I watched one episode and thought it was pretty funny but once was enough for me.

Props to her though. :)

I think I basically only watch Bravo any more.

I am usually laughing out loud. My husband looks up from his computer game and says "What did she say?" Then I try to repeat it - but I'm never able to- so then he looks at me with a weird expression. Oh well, I never miss her! :hi:

45. I don't, because I get the distinct impression that it's not an "act".
With many, if not most stand-up comedians, they tend to envision their acts as if it were a one-person play, where they are the only character. With Kathy Griffin, I don't get that feeling at all. I think that vile, petty, gossipy BS she spews really is her, and that's not a very good person. Same goes for Carlos Mencia - he's the same way.
