"Lord of the Flies" is on TCM now
It started at 11:00 (half hour ago). Wish I could have seen it from the beginning - I've never seen it.

1. I never saw it
I read the book for the first time when I was about 10 years old - one of my older siblings had it assigned to her and I picked it up.

My mom found me in a corner totally engrossed and was a little concerned. She asked me, "Do you understand it?" and I told her "yeah, and it's really good!"

So she left me to my own devices with it - pretty gnarly book for a 10-year-old. Always thought that was pretty cool of mom.

Is the movie any good?

2. The English original is the best IMHO
Don't know which one they're showing.

4. Well, we're not watching it
I hate to start watching a movie after it's a half hour in, especially if I've never seen it before. I'll try to catch it again later or add it to our Netflix queue.

That was cool of your mom!

5. My mom was great!
When I was in kindergarten in 1966, I started a minor riot on the first day when I refused to sit in a pink chair. Because back then, boys sat in blue chairs and girls sat in pink. :eyes:

I didn't like pink.

I sat in a blue chair and when the teacher tried to get me to move, I clamped onto the seat with both hands and burst into tears. But I wouldn't budge.

So she called my mom who had to come to the school (no doubt wondering what the hell I could have done on the very first day) and when she heard what had happened, she snapped, "Why can't she sit in a blue chair?"

The teacher had no sensible response to that so from then on, we practiced a form of gender equality in my kindergarten class. At least in seating. :P

Yeah, my mom was my hero. :loveya:

6. I know it's fiction, but the sociological aspects are still fascinating.
And one of our species dreamed it up.
Would we dissolve into total anarchy without our more-or-less 'civilized' framework of government and 'rules'?
Interesting question.

7. And better than that new 'reality' show too where they stick a bunch of snots on a desert island...
