What time do you all usually eat dinner?
It ranges from about 6:00 to 7:30 here; we're not big on consistency chez Redstone.

PS: Yes, it seems that I'm back to the Land Of The Living. Seven good days in a row, oh yes.

2. My dear Redstone...
Welcome back to the Land of the Living!

I have missed you......

We usually eat between 7 and 7:30....depends on how soon I can pull myself away from my computer......

And on how complicated the dinner is...

17. Pegster! Somehow, I knew you'd reply. This reminds me of the old joke:
Guy goes to the doctor for a checkup.

Doctor says, "Let's start by telling me about your daily routine."

Guy says, "Well, every morning, I get up, eat breakfast, take a shower, vomit, then get dressed and go to work."

Doctor says, "Hey, wait a minute, want to run that by me again?"

Guy says, "Sure. Like I said, every morning, I get up, eat breakfast, take a shower, vomit, then get dressed and go to work."

Doctor says, "You mean to tell me that you vomit every morning before you go to work?

Guy says, "Doesn't everybody?

Hey, I've always thought it was funny anyway.

That's a rather crude, but yes funny, joke!

4. No earlier than 7
Usually 8 or 8:30, sometimes 9 or 10.

I'm just rebelling against a near lifetime of dinner at 5 on the dot with Mom and Dad. Although when my brother, the baby of the family, got his current job, it was shifted to accomodate him, to 5:30. :eyes:

I hadn't seen you around and was a little worried. I'm glad you are feeling better.

And, I normally eat when I am hungry. I don't have any kind of schedule.

7. Thanks, NCN. You've been a stalwart friend, as have so many DUers. I was dreadfully ill for
most of June but manfully resisted Mrs R's nagging to go to a doctor, because I knew what the problem was, and that it would eventually go away (if it didn't kill me first), and that a doctor would just put me into a hospital where I'd have just as much a chance of getting a horrible staph infection as not, and besides, we were changing health insurance companies as of the first of July, and good God, I didn't want to get caught in that "pre-existing condition" trap and having to pay for medication for the rest of my life (which, as you may or may not know, is why I've hidden my specific chronic disease from the Health Insurance Bastards for so long)...and what do you know, I was right, and was able to once again just be more stubborn than the disease, thus able to outwait it yet again, not to mention preserving my unique ability to write the world's longest run-on sentences.

So there's that.

13. Exactly 6:00, every night.
The only way my husband and I could deal with the chaos of parenting was to devise a rigid schedule. We stick to it like a junky to their methadone schedule. Dinner at six, music practice, showers, reading aloud, and kids in bed by eight. Boom! Freedom!

and give you FREEDOM! at a specific time each night.

If we had more kids, I'd suspect we'd do the same.

20. When there's time.
On my school nights that winds up being 9 or 10, days I have work but no school 6 or 7, and weekends are so variable I wouldn't even attempt a guess. As long as we all get fed, I suppose that's the important thing.

24. Anywhere from about 5:30 to 7:00.
On school nights, I try to keep it on the earlier side, somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00.

Sometimes, such as weekends, if we had brunch in the morning, we may eat as early as 4:00 or 4:30 and then have a snack later, and occasionally I'll feed the kids around 5:00 and Mr. LIW and I will have a late supper after they go to bed.

30. I'd suspect that would be the case for about 80% of Americans, if you subsitute
"my spouse" for "my mom."

Far, FAR too many people in this country just do not have the time to make dinner because of job obligations.

MrSG works a lot of evenings, so I'm often on my own for dinner, so it's pretty much whenever I get hungry. When he's home in the evening, it can be anywhere from 5:00 to 7:00.

And I usually have something small, like a salad. My big meal of the day is the mid-day meal.

Although, if I'm going out to dinner, I will usually eat a snack around 4 or so. Just so I don't get to the restuarant wanting to gobble everything in site. :7

Glad you are feeling better Redstone, I have missed seeing you around. :-)

37. 9 pm, give or take an hour; it's too damned hot out any earlier
Plus, it just doesn't feel like dinner when the sun's still up at eight o'clock. It's a hundred + degrees outside still -- I really just don't want to turn the stove on right now.

Strange that, unlike I read about on the Internet or see on TV, I actually have a better tan in the winter half of the year than I do the summer half.

Or when the wife is feeling well and makes me an ass kicking dinner (I love that woman, she can out cook anyone I have ever known and makes everything from carne asada tacos to chinese food - and it is always ass kickin).

We tend to eat later due to the heat here in the summer, no one wants to cook in 110 degree heat with no AC.

39. that's a constant argument in this house
As the cook, I want dinner to be over by 7 so that I can have an evening after the work's over.

Some people in this house would like to slide dinner to 8. Which means I wouldn't be out of the kitchen until 9.

Note that these same people are seen getting hungry about 5:30, at which time they go looking for snacks. Chips, popcorn, whatever.

I submit that 6-6:30 is the natural compromise. They are hungry at 5:30, every night. So stop with the snacks, and let's eat!

Of course, some of these people don't eat anything until 3:00 on a weekend day. Bah!
