Just saw the 1979 film "Over the Edge" for the first time.
Interesting. They didn't release it in the theater but directly to HBO because of the subject matter/plot of the film.

Matt Dillon's screen debut, and I guess one of Kurt Cobain's favorite films (inspiration for "Smells Like Teen Spirit).

Ever seen it?

1. I remember that movie
I thought it was going to be a lousy teen flick, but it was really good. A lot of raw energy that wasn't expected.

2. It has a pretty big cult following apparently, just reading imdb
and all the posts over there it becomes clear it impacted a huge segment of kids at the time.

3. That and "The Van" are the inspiration to every Fu Manchu song.
Great cult movie. Really, that could have been ANY kid's life in the late 70s/early 80s.

You know, except for locking the parents and police in the school and the all-out riot that ensues.

4. It was coincidentally filmed about 10 miles from Columbine
but was (loosely) based on a true story out of California evidently.

6. A friend said it was a cult classic
and couldn't believe someone my age (I would've been the age of the kids in the film when it was released) had never seen it.

So I put it in my Netflix queue. Didn't realize how much people identified with it until I read imdb and googled it.

:hi:

10. and I don't think it was ever released as such (a soundtrack album)
The DVD did have a few extras, such as the trailer for the film and the director and producer talking about making the film.

9. Over and over again when I was 13.
It was my introduction to The Cars, Cheap Trick, and some other great music.

There was a guy at my high school with a New Yawk accent that fall (like the main character), and I was crushin on him a little bit because of the movie.

12. Matt Dillon is
prettier than the girls in the film, imho. As per usual for him I think!
