Earnhardt fans despise Jeff Gordon--remember them pelting him with beer cans when he broke Big E's win record a couple of months ago? I wonder how they're going to accept him being on JG's team.

I have a couple of friends who go to Talledega every year in their RV festooned with 8 and 3 flags. They HATE Jeff Gordon. They think he's a wacky Californian. :eyes: I haven't called them yet to see what they think of this (really, to rub it in. :spray: )

Thought that barrage was uncalled for. Their opinion is that records are meant to be broken (something Big E allegedly understood, too). And they grudgingly admitted that in all the interviews before and after the record-breaking race, Gordon was a class act about it--mentioning several times that Earnhardt was his hero as a kid and inspiration as a young driver. He even displayed a #3 flag on his car.

With Hendrick Motorsporta, you have the Gordon/Johnson future legacy, the Earnhardt name in Fender Racing, and the Mears name from Open Wheel Racing. And all of them can stay on top of the wheel!

Hendrick is an old friend of the family and in fact wrote a contract on a napkin which Dale signed when he was 15 years old. Dale, Jrs. grandfather worked for Hendrik and Dale, Sr. drove a Busch car for Hendrick.

So, NO, all Earnhardt fans aren't having a conniption right now.
