So, I had one of them tear jerkin' moments tonight

I was in the Downtown Eastside, Canada's answer to hell, and I crossing the street. On the corner I was coming up to there was a prostitute. Her legs were totally bruised and trac-marked. As I looked up I noticed she was looking at me. despite the rough shape of her body, she had the nicest eyes. They were very telling and deep. She smiled at me. Not a "Hey baby wanna date" kind of smile. Just a "good afternoon" kind of smile. I can't even find the words, it was such an awkward moment, but in a good way.
As I walked away I felt a little choked up. It always hurts to see someone so young in such dire circumstances. Wherever she is tonight, I hope she's safe.
