What's the trait or characteristic you like most about yourself?
Here's your opportunity to flaunt it, baby!

Tell us what particular trait or characteristic you like most about yourself!

Me: I like to think I'm a caring person. That I would help someone if they really needed help. That I'd give the shirt off my back if need be.

And now, you...

10. Empathy
I can always manage to put myself in someone else's shoes and understand how they are feeling. Also, which sometimes can be good, I am very emotionally honest with people I care about. I don't play mind games and make them try to guess how I feel. What you see is what you get (for lack of a better cliche).

What I experience is people continually trying to tell me what I *should* feel. What's up with that?

I also very much value those same traits in myself, and know it to be sensitivity. So, I relate completely to what you have listed.

14. Willingness to change
I let myself get in a rut for the great majority of the 1990s. My life was rocking along in a state of total entropy. Nothing ever changed. It was solid and stable and boring as hell. Then everything got turned upside down in early 2002 when I got broken up with by the man I had been with for a decade.

I took stock and have made wholesale changes in my life...some big, some little, but all important in busting me out of my rut. I lost 120 pounds. I started letting new people into my life. I stopped being so numb and started letting myself really feel things again. I started being braver with food (I ate oysters for the first time in my life this past year). I made myself get out and try new things.

I'm not done changing yet.

and the ability to make up my own mind about things. I like thinking things through to find the real story, whatever that may mean. That's not always appreciated however. :-(

I am also intensely loyal, and empathetic to the point of taking on other's pain. I know I shouldn't do this all the time (it's too painful), so I have to do this sparingly and only with people I love.

edit: clarification

50. I can give you tips that might help
Either can be done on even semi-feral cats with practice. The whole key is never to get the cat freaked out in the first place. I like to sneak up on 'em when they're sleeping and clip just one claw. I don't have to do that with my three, they're so used to it that they'll just lie there. My girl, Yankee, complains loudly and tries to turn into a potato bug (curls into a tight little ball), but otherwise doesn't struggle.

The whole trick with pilling is the hand position. Once you've got that down, it's easy to get the mouth open, sneak that pill quickly down the throat, and get your hands out of the way of teeth. The way I do it is to hold the cat baby-style in my lap (on their back - unless you have a cat that purely HATES being held that way - in that case, have someone else hold the cat). Put your left hand over the top of their head. Insert the second finger and the thumb from over the top of the head just behind the canines, put the pill on the tip of your right forefinger, and open the mouth just far enough to get your finger in there. Put it in far enough to trigger the cat's gag reflex. Remove all fingers. Hold the cat for a few seconds, then open the mouth again quickly to make sure they've really swallowed. This is why you have the cat on its back; if there's a pill in the back of its throat and you hold its mouth open, it HAS to swallow.

It's hard to explain, but easy to demonstrate. The faster you do it, the less trauma for you and for the cat. Stay calm, don't stress the cat, and if it doesn't work, let the cat go, give it pets and a treat, and try it again in half an hour or so. Like many other things, it's best done when the cat is really sleepy. Catnip half an hour beforehand helps.

51. GREAT tips.
Thank you so much. These things will help a lot. Daddy hates being held baby-style, and catnip doesn't trip his trigger, but the rest of the pilling tips are great.

Thanks, geniph!

47. I will do almost anything for my friends and family
Got that one from my mother. I will run any errand, lend you money, watch your dog/cat, feed your fish, take in your mail, drive you to the airport, help you prep for and clean up after a party, listen to you rant about your crummy job/husband/wife/apartment/life for as long as you want to, and generally do whatever it takes to help you out. If physically possible, I am always there if you need me.

I also honestly believe the best of people, at least until I am proven wrong. Even after that, my brain tries to find a way to excuse. I have an incredibly hard time truly understanding why people intentionally do bad (some might even say evil) things.

Funny, all this makes me sound like a Pollyanna of sorts, and as those of you who've actually met me know, I am so far from that stereotype. I guess the inner-being doesn't always match the outer-facade, and I don't have plans to drop that very soon. Being the caustic, apparent cynic with a heart of gold works for me, so I think I'll keep it around for awhile. ;-)
