Dogs
Are they part of your family or entities meant to be left in the backyard and/or disregarded but fed? I've got 4 dogs and they all sleep on the bed with me, with my cat.

1. Dogs belong in the bed.
Cats do too, but my husband has allergies and refuses to get shots, so the family of cats that adopted us live in our boat in the garage and outside.

I think my dog is in bed now, so I am going to go join her. :boring:

Actually, now that I think about it, if she and the cats can get along they should move into the house since she and I have our own room. I'll have to talk that over with the pets tomorrow.

2. As a general rule, I agree that dogs belong in bed.
But there are exceptions, and our dog is one of them. He's an inside dog, only going out to relieve himself, but I never let him sleep on our bed. He weighs nearly 100 lbs, is a typical hyperactive Golden Retriever, and also sheds thick golden fur like crazy. I don't want to have to wash the blankets every day to get the shed fur off, and I don't want to get smooshed by a heavy dog while trying to sleep, so Toby sleeps peacefully in his large kennel in the living room. :)

3. fighting with the dog to get off the bed
so you can pull the covers down and get in -- is one of the great joys in life.

4. Even a California King size bed wouldn't hold mine
and that's WITHOUT people or cats.

Jake, laying; Elwood, sitting, Daphne to the right and Dotty (about the same size as Jake and Elwood but not pictured)

6. My dogs graciously allow me to sleep in my bed.
They are each less than 15 inches tall from paw to ear tips, standing tall. However, the three of them can take up a whole queen- sized bed to themselves.

7. We have 2 Weimaraners and a Black Lab/Rot mix.
If these 3 dogs sleep in the bed with us then we would have to sleep on the floor. They do sleep in our bedroom with us though. They won't sleep anywhere else.

8. They have never slept anywhere but in the bed with us
And for some reason they find my side of the bed their favorite resting place. They are our family, as much a part of our lives as our kids. They are house dogs that go outside under close supervision.

Years ago we had this dog that was part Burmese Mountain dog, and he wanted to be outside all the time. I think there are breeds, either because they're working dogs or are bred to live in cold climates, that actually would rather be out than in with people.

10. The whippet is our bed dog

and one borzoi sleeps on each side at night....during the day, they spend lots of

time on the bed. Dogs needs definitely part of our criteria when buying a house

as well as a car. We don't travel unless we have a reliable dog sitter (no boarding

kennel) or we take them with us. Hey, they're family.
