Since the saying is implying that "only someone who really hated communism could go to a communist country that hates the United States and which hasn't let in a Westerner in decades", then we need something to the effect of "only someone who really has the _______ of Shrubbie could possibly ______"

However, I'm still entirely clear how this work in its perfect form.

I'm thinking "Only Shrub could take responsibility" or "Only Shrub could admit failure".

Am I on the right vein, here?

I'm hoping someone more creative can do this mind experiment better justice than I.

7. I think the difference is that Nixon actually had the fortitude and honesty to

recognize that engaging with Communist China was the right thing to do. There are a lot of positive things that a Republican (even from from the far far right; Jesse Helms comes to mind) with integrity could do, but Shrub is not that guy.
