You know when I decided to stop taking the Catholic Church seriously?
When I found out that, according to the Quebec Conference of Catholic Bishops, one must support Quebec's language laws to be a good Catholic.

1. Don't know who said this,
but I like the quote: "One must distinguish between what God has said and what others have said in His name."

The Church is run by a bunch of sexually-repressed old men.

3. You know when I stopped taking the Catholic Church seriously?
During the 3 years dating my (now) wife, who was saving herself for marriage.

You learn to hate a religion pretty damn quickly!

4. Damn...
Mad props to you for sticking with that- I, as a girl, would be driven mad if my bf was 'saving' himself for marriage...

8. How about the masturbation thing?
You actually go to hell for all time, in unbearable, unimaginable agony, if you wax the old surfboard and get hit by a truck before a priest can give you absolution?

9. 3rd Grade, for me.

We moved, and the closest public elementary school to our new place was miles away, but there was a Separate school just aroung the corner, so my mom, since she was coincidentally flirting with religious fanatiscism that year (the next year, it was all about macrame), enrolled me in the Catholic school.

In "science" class, they taught us that, to this day, men have one less rib than do women, because Eve was made from Adam's rib.

I mentioned that to my mom, because even at age 8 I knew that was a fairy story, and that was my only year immersed in Catholicism.

10. It Was The First Day of Sunday School For Me
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 12:06 AM by CO Liberal
September of 1959. It's still etched in my memory, over 44 years later. The nun stood up at the front of the classroom and said the following:

"Everyone in this room is a Catholic, and if you're good your entire life, you can go to Heaven. JEWS can't go to Heaven - PROTESTANTS can't go to Heaven. Only good Catholics can go to Heaven."

This speech set the tone for my religious education, which culminated with my leaving the Church in 1977.

11. Lets seperate the good from the bad...
Most catholic churchgoers... goood
Elite clergy and the 'powers that be'... bad
Certain Priests and Cardinals... Lets just not go there.
