do you wear a hard-hat at your job?
i swear, no matter how many times i put the thing on i can't get used to the bigger diameter, and as such, have quite a few smacks throughout the day whiLe moving under overhangs/whatever. even my by big head isn't making me immune to it.

if you answered yes, do you have this probLem?

and for shits and giggLes,

do you wear the brim in the back or front?

how many stickers on yours?

i finaLLy switched my brim to the back today. i onLy have 2 stickers on mine, and neither of them is WAAF107.3 sticker.

1. I used to wear one -
When "just walking" or working in a ladderway or cableway inside a ship, I would usually go brim to back so I wouldn't keep hitting my head - your perspective gets thrown because the hat sits so much higher. And when you hit your hat on an overhang you aren't expecting, it jars both your brain and neck - bleah. I bit my tounge once because of a hardhat.
I've also found a hardhat stays on your head better if you wear a do-rag or some sort of cloth head covering (I usually found a longish colorful scrap bit of shirt or skirt "rag" from the on site scrap cloth bin).
If you have long hair, it helps to put a braid or fall through the headband/harness instead of wearing the hat over your hair.
The best fitting ones were the balaklava types. Unfortunatly, you usually had to either buy your own or inherit one - one of my bosses gave me his when he moved up the corporate food chain, and it had a mixture of Greenpeace, various military type (he was a retired Vietnam Vet and we generally worked Navy ships), and Heavy Metal stickers on it. (Hey, at 6ft 3 and built like a viking with a ZZ Top beard and a braid, those stickers fit his image)

5. yeah, the jarring of the neck kiLLs me
for a spLit second i'm ready to yeLL out in pain from the joLt it sends.

i've been resisting the rear-brim out of stubborness. when i first started having safety training (first one i had was OSHA40/HAZMAT so they reaLLy driLLed in the safety standards) the instructors were aLway very against putting the brim to the back (moving the inner harness to the rear, not turning it around... which is very dangersous) and i've cLung to that ever since. i finaLLy had to make the switch as i've just started a project recentLy as an instrument operator on a survey crew Laying out Lines on a construction site, and everytime i was trying to Look into eye hoLe, the brim was wacking the gun.

so i finaLLy gave in today. i may not Look as cooL, but the job goes smoother.

i don't have to worry about the Long hair, as i try to keep it high and tight.. or something Like that.

3. I have to, once in awhile, when I visit certain job sites.
It feels weird, since I don't usually have to wear one. And then throw in the goggles, and oy!

8. Yeah, but beware of priapism.
Swelling of the head that precludes removal of hardhat.

13. I used to
Edited on Wed May-09-07 09:05 PM by conscious evolution
After a while I got used to the idea that my head is bigger with it on and seldom hit anything with it.
What did drive me crazy was, becuase my head is not perfectly symetrical, the hat would slide to one side of my head a little bit.It looked as if I was intentionally wearing it at a 'jaunty angle'.Whatever that means.I sure heard it enough though.

14. On occasion.
I work for a corporate real estate development firm and must wear one when on a jobsite. It's far better than the alternative.

The triplets think it is cool that I have my own hardhat. And they ARE easily adjustable.

15. I sometimes wear one
and the problem I have is if you have to lean back to look at something, the damn thing is likely to fall off.

We have a project where we are knocking down mud swallow nests, and we are supposed to wear PPE (dust mask, goggles, hard hat) but when you lean back to jab them with the pole, viola, no more hat. :P

We're not supposed to have stickers, but I have one with the name of my company. :P
