HILLSBORO -- A Hillsboro elementary school teacher faces charges of theft and unlawful use of a computer after allegedly trying to sell a student’s coat on eBay, police said Wednesday.

Police said she put a female student's Columbia Sportswear jacket for sale on the popular auction Web site, where the student's mother -- who was searching eBay for a replacement -- noticed what she suspected was her daughter's coat. The mother also noticed the seller was from Hillsboro.

“It’s a very sad situation for everybody involved…it’s hard because they're little kids, they don’t understand why their teacher is gone,“ said school principal Janis Hill.

1. Something similar happened to me in high school

My so new I hadn't had it embroidered yet letter jacket went missing out of my gym locker, but the lock wasn't broken or anything. A few weeks later, one of the gym teachers- the one who didn't have a class the period I took gym- had one just like it. Our locker combinations were on file "in case we lost them." :eyes:

I didn't even bother reporting it, though my mother really wanted me too because the thing had cost more than we could really afford and she'd saved up a bit to get it for me.
