Isn't there such a thing as being too "open-minded"?
Take the separation of church and state, for example. I haven't read Scalia's court opinions on the matter. I don't think I need to. I know that he is part of a network dedicated to the reinterpretation of the establishment clause to end traditional notions of separation of church and state. I've heard the arguments for why there is no such thing as separation of church and state, and I have rejected them. I don't think that neglecting to read Scalia means that I am close-minded, or if it does, that that is a bad thing. Life is too short to go through every possible dominionist's writings looking for some new argument, when I have already decided that no possible argument could change my mind, right? Or am I just an ideologue with too many first principles, as I was called in a debate just today?

1. I wouldn't worry to much about it.......when other people resort to name calling
it is simply because they have nothing of intelligence to say...

You have a right to believe whatever you want without having to endure criticism from others.

2. well, I don't think that not reading Scalia is a bad thing
but I do think it is representative of being a bit closed-minded.

Besides, I think it's easier to argue against what someone says when you know exactly what it is they are saying.

I've seen it done a lot where Freepers will assign what they *think* (that is if they do think) the position of progressives is and then argue against that. Of course, most of the time their original premise is just plain wrong, and so also goes their argument against it.

3. Scalia is a braying ass.
I consider myself very open minded but I've heard asses bray before and listening to one more braying ass isn't going to change my opinion.

I'll gladly debate education, immigration, tax, foreign and many other government policies, but when it comes to basic human rights, I see no reason to waste my time considering the opinions of a fascist.
