What year is it?
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 02:27 PM by Boojatta
Maybe, in the year 2075, hundreds of millions of people will say in casual conversation (for example, when they are adjusting to the new date for checks) "it's twenty seventy-five." That "twenty" could be repeated from now till December 2099, a duration of over 92 years.

It seems even more odd to imagine that for the next eight hundred and ninety-three years, there will be at least a few tens of millions of punctilious people who will be saying "two thousand and..." at least once every year. If each of those tens of millions of people gave me a penny...

I answer my own question ("what year is it?") as follows:
It is double oh seven.

... I would probably be able to afford to give a charitable contribution to the Olive Garden that would cover their taxes for about a month. Then they would probably give me a free meal or two. Such meals would provide great material for new threads in the DU Lounge. You can see for yourself that this topic is very relevant to those who spend time in the DU Lounge.

Feel free to say "double oh seven" up to and including December 31st, 2007. Then get ready for double oh eight. I hear that 008 has a license to fish.

3. To me, that's obscure banter. Got anything a bit more eccentric and
a bit less obscure?

5. I wouldn't say it's "Two thousand AND seven"; I just say two-thousand seven.

Remember how, before 2000, people kept saying "In the year TWO THOUSAND...", but when 2000 actually arrived, no one ever really called it that?

I think once 2010 hits, many people will say "twenty-ten."

6. I remember when I was a kid, some "old timers"...
...would refer to the early years of the 20th Century as "aught five" or "aught eight."

I see no reason not to continue this noble tradition.
