My dad received a phone call from the Army that may have been intended for me.
My dad is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. He served in Vietnam, Jordan during the Black September crisis in 1970, and in Turkey in Operation Desert Calm. His last op was ten years after he had officially retired from the Army. The other day, he received a call from an Army officer trying to persuade former service members to join the slaughter in Iraq. The questions he was asked led my dad to believe that the recruiter was actually looking for ME!

My dad and I have the same name, differentiated only by "Junior" for him, and "the III" for me.

Now I'm worried that some hammerhead from the Army Recruiting Command is looking for me to saddle up and crew an M1A1 again. Well, if he calls, I'm gonna give him what for and hang up on his ass. B-)

5. I ETS'd in 1993. My reserve commitment ended a year after that.
They can't touch me, but I wanna give them hell if they even try.

6. Nope. No exemption for that reason. However, if I AM called back,
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 04:41 PM by Aristus
instead if beginning every sentence with "Sir," I have to say "What is...?" B-)

8. Okay, here's the problem:
I can't really fit into my uniform anymore. :(

Do you really want a picture of me sausaged into a coat and trousers where the buttons are bursting apart? I may be a handsome devil ;-), but I'm not the buff, ripped hunk I usta be.

But for you, u4ic, a medley of some of my past hits:

Hope you like those...

B-)

:hi: u4ic! :hug::loveya::hug:

10. My dear Aristus!
They had better not lay a finger on you!

They'll have to go through me, first! :nuke:

I'm so glad you can't be taken.....

That would be wrong on every damn level!

13. Didn't see this until just now.
:loveya: :hi:

Those fuckers will try anything. :grr: They're so desperate to fill their vacancies they'll even go to that kind of extreme. If you've got caller ID, check it carefully before you answer the phone. And be sure to screen calls you're not sure about. That really stinks!

14. Wow - just f**king wow
I don't mean this the way it sounds but the military must be getting desperate to try to get former service personnel who've been separated for YEARS to saddle up again.

You're right that they can't touch you (though if there was still a Repuke Congress ANYTHING was possible) but it's so pathetic watching them go through these paroxysms of panic.

The once mighty US military laid so low by its own Commander-in-Chief (I just vomited in my mouth saying that).

I'm sorry to know you're being put in such a position.......

17. My daughter is getting unsolicited West Point brochures
She's getting one or two a week now. She nearly took my eye out when she threw one across the room and screamed "How dare they send this to me".... Gotta love a liberal 16 year old. She hasn't gotten the phone calls yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I don't think it will be a "pretty" conversation for that recruiter.

18. You give 'em hell, Aristus.
They are very aggressive and have even called me at home,
right after my son graduated from high school.
They wanted to speak to him.

Hello- he has high spectrum autism and ADHD.

Don't think that will work out.
:sarcasm:

Good luck, sweetie!
I hope they don't bother you.
