Violence in films and TV--urgh!

As I get older, I've become quite repulsed by violent films, especially slash and hack films. I think for some reason it has to do with heightened imagination--the other night on CSI, for example, one of the deaths involved a woman tossed from a car, who gets caught up in the seatbelt and dragged for a very long time on the road. Even thinking about that makes me wince and shudder in horror.

Whether there is now more actual violence in TV and film, I don't know, but the way it is being depicted has gotten downright scary. As everyone already knows, though, violence sells, and it gets more horrible all the time.

I really think we need to get some of the old biddies out of the business, and exchange sex for violence. I know more realistic depiction of sex would give people a more uplifting experience (pun intended) and eventually the tendencies for violence might eventually disappear.

I still have enough tolerance to enjoy an action movie now and then but I've become less and less tolerant of violence in TV and movies. I've always felt that gratuitous violence was much more offensive than gratuitous sex but I seem to become more and more annoyed at the hypocrisy of the industry ratings that lets kids see horrible violence but go into panic over a nipple.

2. We stopped watching CSI about 4 years ago because of the gratuitous violence

As soon as they saw the need to include cannibalism in their story to boost their ratings, we signed off. Criminal Minds is on the verge of losing us as well.

3. I agree.

As I get older, I get more and more repulsed by the violent imagery in movies and television. And you can't tell me that it doesn't have any affect on our society as a whole.

I think it's sad that certain words or nudity can't appear on network television, but violent imagery can.
