Big fight going on in GD. Head scarves. I was wondering
when the next flamewar would erupt over there.

I didn't see any other flamewars. Things must be kinda quiet in that kingdom (er, queendom, er,province).

9. They used to.
Way back in the day when I was a kid, we used to have to wear a little lace doily-type thing bobby-pinned to our heads. I think they got away from that with Vatican II, although I do believe that women are still required to wear some type of head covering if they're in the Vatican.

Don't Jewish men have to wear a yarmulke when they're in the synagogue?

10. I used to have to wear a mantilla
Back in the olden days, women would often wear head scarves to
keep their hair from getting messed up. It was unusual to see
a woman without one. Until JFK, men always wore hats in public.

11. Not just in synagogue, and not just Jewish men...
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 08:41 AM by SteppingRazor
Jewish men also wear them during any religious ceremony, no matter where the ceremony may be (for example, in one's home during Passover).

Also, even if you're not Jewish, you're generally expected to wear one at a Jewish wedding ceremony. You can refuse to, but it's kind of an asshole thing to do.

12. Not in my lifetime.
Growing up Catholic, a lot of the little old ladies at church still always wore a hat to church, but it was generally something only practiced by the 60-and-over crowd

16. IHOP!
It's international...

OTOH Waffle House is just a place to hang out and eat grits and pig parts. Waitresses at Waffle House write "God Bless" on your check*. Ronald Reagan liked Waffle House**. It must be eeeevvilll (with 4 e's, 2 v's, 1 i, and 3 l's.)

Citations:
* - It happened to me at a Waffle House in NC in 1987 ergo it must be universally true.
** - I have no idea whether or not Reagan liked Waffle House. This statement is not backed up with any proof whatsoever.

This post is not for real. I'm making fun of flame wars and the people who intentionally seek them out to jump into and name-call.
