Ouch.
My tonsils are swollen up huge and have big lumpy white patches on them.

I'm not asking for medical advice, as I know what to do- namely gargle salt water and wallow in self-pity. I just think it's really lame that my goddamn tonsils had to wait until I was on vacation to act up on me in what has become a sure and reliable sign of spring.

:grr:

1. You probably don't want to hear this
Maybe you should have them out? I had recurring tonsil issues (anytime I got the least bit sick it would go right to the throat) just like you said swollen with the white lumps. I had them taken out when I was 21 years old. It was a horrible experience but I don't regret doing it. I don't have those problems anymore. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

I hope you feel better soon.

2. That really does suck
(being sick while on vacation).

Since I get sick every time I leave my time zone, I always wonder if it has anything to do a susceptibility to germs not native to my home base.

I think there has been one time in my entire life that I didn't get sick when I traveled.

Hope it clears up soon.

3. Ugh! I just got over strep so bad it took my voice away.

I know a lot more people than usual who have suffered with that this spring. Big lumpy white patches? I'd probably go for a strep test. You don't want that spreading.

Get well soon!

ETA: I lived between popsicles and hot toddies.

5. Actually, I would see a doctor
The white patches are likely a sign of infection and you would need antibiotics, probably for both of you.

6. I don't think Mr. Too Healthy For His Own Damn Good gets sick.
The doctor bit has to wait until I get home next week. Probably just as well, I'm allergic to most antibiotics, so I try not to use the few I can take for anything that isn't a huge honking deal.

9. I'm allergic to most antibiotics as well
But if you get a fever or start feeling really lethargic between now and getting home, I would get to a doctor right away. If it's strep, that's nothing to fool around with.

If not treated, strep throat infections can sometimes cause complications such as rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever can cause painful and inflamed joints and a rash, and can even result in damage to heart valves. Another potential complication of strep throat infections is kidney inflammation.

Signs and symptoms
In general, signs and symptoms of strep throat include:

Throat pain
Difficulty swallowing
Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus

8. Actually, I'd see a doctor.
If it's bacterial tonsilitis, it may require antibiotics.

11.  I'm sick too. Let's have a pity party
I'll bring orange juice if you'll bring chicken soup. I'm pretty sure mine is viral though, my kids both had it with fevers up to 103+ It sucks when mommy gets sick, doesn't it? Take care LeftyMom.
