After being laid off November 1, 2002 and working under the table for 2 places, I secured a job. It's in my industry, software, and I start January 26. I'll now have insurance, thank God, but no dental, yet. They pay the monthly premiums, so it's covered. They told me they are looking for people who intend to stay at a place for a long time and have no intentions of "riding the waves", so when there is an economic downturn, they don't lay people off. There is only 6 people there now and they're looking for 2 new people.

I'm gonna keep my weekend job, doorman at a bar, for a while - gets me out Friday and Saturday nite.

Hope everyone else looking gets one soon. And thanks for the karma. Got a good response for it and you guys helped put me over the top.

Mrs bearfan got laid off a month ago from the Round Rock PD. She was a 911 operator. The cops all have computers in their copcars now to look up their own warrants. Too much togetherness can cause anxiety sometimes.

I remember how tremendously relieved I felt when I finally got a job after being unemployed for nearly a year and unable to get my foot in the door even at K-Mart and places like that, despite my two degrees! Hopefully, you won't have to train any Indian workers, soon, lol!

What kind of software, and what are the requirements for these two other jobs? (I remain gratefully employed, but I know at least one competent web geek who I'm pretty sure is still looking...)

8. For my new place ...

Visual Basic, C++, MFC, ASP and technical support experience. This is in Cambridge, MA (the People's Republic, so I'll be right at home :-)). This new place I'm starting low, but it will jump to what I should be getting within a year.


For my current place, Visual Basic and ASP. Low pay and no benefits. This is in Marblehead MA.

The 2nd place is the door job at a gay bar in Lynn MA (I'm one of the boys).
