What is Brian Wilson's family had lived in a non-coastal area?

The family moved from Kansas in the 1920's, IIRC.

Would the Wilson brothers still have become famous musicians? They wouldn't be singing about surfing, for sure.

Does anybody besides me wonder about things like this? :silly:

1. There would have been no Sgt Peppers!
The boomers masterwork would have been something else, maybe the Moby Grape debut album.

The mind boggles.

5. Probably something like
Let's go shucking now
Everybody's learning how
Come on to the corn fields with me

Or

There's a place
Where I can go to
Smell the cow manure
In my barn, In my barn

Or

She's got her daddy's tractor
And she pulls into the local feed store now
She forgot all about the square dancin'
Like she told her old man now.
With the pigs in the back and the chickens sittin' on her lap now
She'll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes the John Deere away.

7. They'd all be even more tragically unhip
:D

(I love the Beach Boys. Except for Mike Love. He can get fucked. In the ear, or something. With a coathanger.)

8. I don't like him much either.

In reading about the Beach Boys, I see hints here and there that he's abusive, but nothing more than hints. I guess becaues of fear of litigation.

13. They'd have bought the Mellencamp house, forcing that family to move to the Coast
Where John Mellencamp would write songs about the plight of surfboard builders and wine makers and unemployed actors. And Jaq and Dy-enne would have been sitting outside the In and Out Burger, instead of Tastee Freeze.

Maybe.

14. Would REM exist if Georgia didn't have cheap drugs?
I heard somewhere that the Athens music scene began because Northern bands wanted an excuse to play in Georgia where the drugs were cheaper. Allegedly Husker Du's Land Speed Record takes its title from that pheonomena.
