New TempurPedic bed! Yay!
We finally splurged and got a brand-new queen-sized Tempurpedic bed yesterday. Mr. Sleepyhead and I both have lower back issues, and our old mattress was shot, so we decided to go with the deluxe mattress. I have to say, it's been a long time since I have slept that well. No tossing and turning from either one of us, and we both felt great this morning. Yeah, it's quite pricey, but being able to sleep soundly and waking up without back pain is worth it!

1. You're swaying me towards it. I have been tempted for a long time, but as you say
it's pricey. A couple of months ago there was a thread here and some posters said there are much cheaper memory-foam layers available at Target & BedBathBeyond, which run from $30 to $60. Haven't bit for any of it yet, but you give powerful testimony.

2. We had one of those mattress toppers.
It was (I think) about $50 at BBB. No comparison whatsoever. It helped a bit (and we had a fairly nice mattress underneath), but we could still "feel" the innerspring mattress. And as the mattress got older (we had had it for about 9 years), it developed some hills and valleys that the topper couldn't compensate for. We saved up for this new mattress for several months, and got financing from the mattress store (1 year same as cash). We will most likely pay it off within a month or three though, as we don't like to accumulate too much debt. (The Tempurpedic company itself sets prices, so you will rarely find the mattresses on sale, but sometimes the store will throw in free delivery or a couple of pillows, which takes away a tiny bit of the sting. We got free delivery and free disposal of our old mattress/box spring.)

3. They say, always have a pair of comfortable shoes
and a comfortable bed.
