So, which Led Zeppelin song HASN'T been overplayed? I vote for Jimmy's favorite song:
Achille's Last Stand. To me, this song is what Zeppelin is all about and what sets them above so many others. I think it must be one of Bonzo's favorite songs too. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is playing lead , him or Jimmy.

1. The Whole Lotta Love Medley on the BBC Sessions disc
I've never heard it on the radio, thirteen minutes of them proving that they can be the best band that ever existed

2. That is a great song, but
anything from Physical Graffiti is also great and not overplayed in my opinion.

5. Excellent song and performance! Physical Graffiti was my first Led Zep album.
Actually, I had it as an 8-track first! I still remember listening to it sitting in the parking lot at my high school when I was supposed to be in class. Thanks for sharing!

7. Agreed. That song is so awesome, and most Zep fans ignore it.
Quite complex, too. I remember when I was starting to play guitar, it took me weeks to learn all the different guitar parts.

There must be 6-7 different guitars on the studio version, and seeing Page pull it off live is truly amazing.

Have you seen the Seattle 1977 clip of this? It doesn't look as disco-ish as Knebworth, Page and Bonzo don't look zoned out on drugs yet, and the playing is tighter.

11. Ten Years Gone, Gallows Pole, Hots on for Nowhere, Hey Hey What Can I Do, Thank You
The Battle of Evermore, and so many other gems ignored while they play "Rock and Roll" for the umpteenth time. In my opinion, what sets LZ apart from other heavy metal bands is that they did the slow, acoustic, contemplative stuff every bit as good as the harder stuff - they could do both equally well. That puts them in a league above almost all other metal or hard rock bands.

18. Hands down - Hey Hey What Can I Do
Never released on an album unless you count the boxed sets. The B-side single to Immigrant Song. What the fuck were they thinking?

A simply amazingly beautiful song.

24. I bought a Japanese 45 in 1979 or so, with "Immigrant Song" on the front and "Hey Hey" on the
back - that was the only recording of it I could find for many years.

15. Err, that ain't Grace Slick
The song is "The Battle of Evermore" and the female singer is the late, great Sandy Denny, my all-time favorite woman singer.

And I agree with the OP - Achilles' Last Stand is an amazing piece of music - perhaps Pagey's single greatest feat of guitar orchestration.

25. Sadly, yes
Sandy Denny was the lead singer of Fairport Convention, the first band to play traditional English folk on electric instruments, back in the late 1960s. She also sang with the band Fotheringay and recorded a handful of solo albums in the 1970s. She died of a cerebral hemorrage in 1978 after falling down a flight of stairs. She was only 31.

29. any suspicions of foul play?
it seems like 'falling down a flight of stairs' is one of those cause of deaths I see alot on those court tv shows where they find out it was really the SO's doing.

according to everything I ever read. IIRC, it didn't even happen at her own house.

16. I think so too.
That's what I liked about many of their songs. They seem so evocative. They make me think of "olden tymes". More romantic times.

That one sure does the trick for me.

19. As far as I'm concerned
They were overplayed starting in 1968. A real singer may have helped them along.

21. I don't think you can overplay a Led Zeppelin song.
I've heard them all hundreds of times and they still sound fresh and they still feel the way they've always felt.

Underplayed songs from them would be stuff like "Out on the Tiles", "For Your Life", "Down By The Seaside" and "Thank You".
