Am I getting old or what - Spent my friday night on DU....
Daughter is next door staying the night with my niece, wife was up in bed watching hockey, and I was down here reading DU after a nap.

The old lady hit me up on the nextel (radioed me) and said "We must be getting old, it's Friday night and we are at home watching tv and surfing the internet).

I guess I get more pleasure talking to people on DU than the bar folks. Either I am getting old, or this is the wave of the future and I am riding it :) No loud music (unless I am playing it), no drunks (unless I am drinking and you are too), no driving, I can smoke without going to jail, and the only thing I am missing is people staggering around and trying to get me to buy em one.

Maybe I am getting old. But I am liking it. Got more friends now then I ever have, and no one cares what ya look like.

I interact more with adults now more than any other time in my life. I can offer words of hope, say funny things, and offer a virtual toast to someone across the world from me.

I'm in a global bar now. And ya know, I think I like it.

2. You're having fun
ya old fart...just kidding. LOL.

I'm home tonight for the sheer fact that I didn't feel like doing a damn thing, and no one should tell me that I should be elsewhere.

Likewise for you. If people don't like it, eff 'em. B-)

4. I'm 41 - always been a home body anyway
or is that homeboy? At any rate, I get more from discussion with others across the net than I ever did locally with some drunk locals.

Now if I was single and wanted to get laid....well, hell I would still be on the net as it increases my chances :)

Fortunately for me, I don't need to worry about that :)

3. Salute!
:toast:

I rarely go out on Friday nights (or any other nights). Went out lots when I was younger, but I like hanging out at home now. Glad to be part of this global bar.

5. I'll drink to that
I can do it all at home, watch tv, talk to other people, drink past bar closing time, and sit here in pajama's while doing it all without anyone caring a wit.

The internet is the world's biggest bar, and tonight DU is my bartender :)

7. so-so right now
I got her tickets, and my daughters' - they leave here April 10. I will follow shortly with the truck and all our stuff, but might be about 5 days later than I wanted (expensive to rent a uhaul to go across country, plus gas, etc).

The good news is, once we are moved I think she will improve some, I have 2-3 more jobs lined up, and maybe - just maybe, life will turn around.

It won't cure her parkinson's - but it will help with her depression, and mine.

9. I really hope this move is good for all of you, SS.
Sometimes a change in location really can make a difference in how someone does physically/mentally.

That's wonderful news that you have a number of jobs to look at! I think of you and your family often, and wish only the vest for all of you.

12. Biggest laugh I ever got from 'Cheers':
Norm was ripping on politicians, and the guy sitting next to him said something about how he thought they were doing a pretty good job and the country was in good shape.

Norm never looked at the guy. Just snarked on him. Then he asked him what he did for a living.

"I'm the Speaker of the House of Representatives."

"Well, that would make you Tip O'Neill," Norm said. "And me..."

He finally turned and looked at the Speaker.

"...a horse's butt."

14. It was the way he said it
and the way he looked.

Remember the old Bugs Bunny cartoons when Bugs would jape on Elmer and Elmer turned into a sucker? Like that.

It was indeed classic Norm. :D

16. The point of all this, of course
is that TSS nailed it — DU does often seem like a comfortable bar "where everybody knows your name."

Which is why we come here all the time.

Trouble is, I fancy myself as Sam, but I think I'm probably much more like Cliff. x(

Which gives me an idea for a thread. :7
