Basically; there are certain things you can say in certain forums. R/T is known as "The Arena" because it is so confrontational; GD is mad as well. The Lounge is where people go to blow off steam about all sorts of crap, and the polite thing to do is to let them be.

Insult someone in the lounge, then you're totally fucked, if the person has friends, they'll swarm all over you, and then follow you to other threads and never leave you alone. I don't particularly care for this practice, since I think people tend to get ganged up on, which is kind of childish BUT
From what I've heard what you did was in poor taste, and insulting others is bad form to begin with, so this is kind of strange that you posted this.
You didn't challenge someone's opinions or view point...you kicked someone while they were down.
In the lounge, that'll get you eaten alive. In GD, that'll make you wildly popular :P
Think before you post (lord only knows I hardly ever do that)...but being a newbie, it's important for you to make a good impression on people, so that they'll be more inclined to hear what you have to say.
I'm not the most popular person here by any means, but I think at this point I've made a lot of friends (maybe a few enemies but I don't think so...I'm very diplomatic and polite most of the time so I tend to be able to smooth things over with all but the most irrational and psychotic).
I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and being nice of it and assuming that you just don't know, cause you're new.
But you'll figure it out. The Lounge can be a vicious place, in different ways than GD or R/T...you're already starting to discover this, I guess.
Keep with it. Find your niche. Reach out to people...eventually, you'll start to see results.
