Help! I've messed up my wireless connection

I can't get my laptop to work with my Netgear system at home. I don't know what the hell I've done to it. My laptop won't connect with the wireless router. I get a signal fine, but it's stuck authenticating the address.

18. Did you unplug the modem and the router from the power source?

Sometimes, I need to do that when what you are describing happens. If you haven't made any configuration changes, it should work.

Also, to be methodical, if that still doesn't work, you should connect your laptop with an ethernet cable directly into the router, to be sure that the modem is actually working. If that doesn't work, connect directly to the modem itself. Best to eliminate any basic problems with the hardware first.

3. For starters..

Shutdown everything for a couple of minutes. (unplug the router)

Then bring everything back up. Starting with the router.

4. Try killing power to the wireless router.

Count to 10 and plug it in again.
Sometimes that works.
If not, try killing power to the DSL (or whatever you use) box and restart.

He just spent a day helping someone fix their wireless problems.

He wasn't a dick. And he just echoed everyone else. Maybe it would be best if your internet stayed broken for a few months.. <= That was being a dick.
