don't f%#* with my family- woohoo from the twilight zone.
well, turns out when you are dr. *******, principal, people pick up the phone. i had a half dozen voicemails and deflected calls. turns out that my kid's lower than expected, apparently miscalculated admissions score may be an abberation of a now fired attendence clerk. according to the school attendence officer, she missed 45 days of school last year. this person was recently taken out of the building in hand cuffs. let's just say she is a sad, sick person.
this gives kid 0 of 100 points, on a 1000 point scale. she did not miss anything like 45 days, and her report card said she had missed 4.5. she has a chronic illness and a 504 plan anyway. the admissions officer got the hard sell from the principal, and from me when i called to tell him that we will work this out, and that he does want this kid. he sounded pretty convinced by the time i got off the phone.
it seems like a blessing in disguise, but i'm sure they would have taken her in the first place without this bit of weirdness. i have no doubt that this person deliberately tried to trip this kid up. i'm sure they will be looking at other kid's records, too.
what a strange trip. but :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

4. i didn't have anything to do with the handcuffs. but
i now have to get the admissions officer, and the "system" to accept that this number is made up. kiddo says a bright friend of hers got a surprisingly low score, also. they are going to have to go through the records of all those kids who took these tests, and correct their scores. fortunately, the principal has principles.
but people, you have got to be involved in your kids schools. people there know me, respect me, and appreciate the work i do. they are ready to go to bat for this kid. i can't imagine what would have happened if i was in the dark about the situation. i knew about it because i am there.

i am a little whipped, but feel better than i did last week- wondering how to get this kid the education she needs. i will be curious just what form this correction will take.

5. One of my kids got a LOT of support when he had a terrible
(post divorce) year. And even though his teachers were just good people in the first place, I know it helped that I was helping out in the classroom. It made our family more real to the whole school, imho, so when things got rough for a while, there was good communication and even some, :wow: team work.

It's a lot of work to put your kids through school. A LOT.

9. I don't think I'd have had the patience to do that. It's a good thing
it wasn't needed because I don't know what we would have done. I love teaching but I'm not really gifted in dealing with minds that are under 20 or so.

11. thanks.
can't have enough :woohoo: for this. the principal was great. she laid it on thick, and i stood there beaming. it was great. the woman is a tough cookie, so compliments from her are pretty golden.
so crazy, tho. i hate to have to explain things starting with- "ok, there was this person who is not all there, see." people who don't know me wonder, and people who do sometimes go, ah hah! no win.
