1. IF Stone / Lester Bangs
Both guys that did things I wish I could do, not sure how heroic they were though although they did take chances that I'm too spineless to attempt.

3. Someone who acts selflessly to help another

they tend to have a generosity of spirit and heart, as well.

on edit: many on this thread will undoubtedly mention all the well-known heroes and heroines we're all familiar with, but I speak to the many nameless ones who make a huge difference by their simple acts, which are inspired by understanding our common humanity.

Further, I would argue that in many ways, we ALL can get in touch and manifest our "inner hero and heroine" whenever we want to.

That's what I say. :D

4. My dad, who taught me that it is our duty as human beings...
to care for those who cannot care for themselves, and that each is worthy of dignity.

He and my mom also showed their five children (and now their 5 children-in-law and 11 grandchildren) what a loving family is all about.

6. Julia Butterfly Hill As soon as I heard her story on DemocracyNow! i became a fan
Even though she does not approve of people viewing her that way, I think it is pretty heroic to spend two years of your life enduring all types of hardships in order to protect a tree. Plus, she is also one of the deepest, most profound thinkers I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Learn all about her at www.circleoflife.org

13. She's like heroin to me.
I cannot get a look at it
So I'm burnin' them on the deal, anyway
I see her come down from the top of the stairs
I guess that I'd be cool
But there's a tickle in my veins
I've been a real good tombstone
But now I'm blown away

She is like an eye-blue swimming pool
But she will never know that she is there
We sit together drunk like our fathers used to be
I'm looking up at God and saying
"What are you gonna do?"
I'm looking up and crying
Because I thought it was up to you

She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein

Don't let her take her love to town
They will never fill her heart
She needs a passion like her father's used to be
I know because I'm like the train
Shooting down that mainline
I know because I'm the Indian wind
Along the telegraph lines

She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
So mainline it

I cannot get a look at it
So I'm blowin' back my trouble to the east
We sit together sad like our fathers used to be
I know the perfect run
By the sleep it puts in my heart
I know my special rider
I can see her in the dark

She feels like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
