Mike Portnoy isn't too far down the list either.

9. Grant Hart is my personal favorite but I'd have to go with Grohl
The guy can sing, he can drum like a crazy man, and he can write a damn good song. He's just much more all purpose than any other guy on the list.

And this is coming from someone who hated Nirvana.

Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 10:00 AM by johnnie
At least *one* of the best I would say. Another great all-purpose drummer is Simon Phillips.

On edit - Of course, this is just my opinion. Please don't get all musically elite on me :)

29. *
I was reading about Bill Berry quitting REM and how it basically finished them off. Well they kept making records but even Stipe said "What the hell do we do now?" seems that Berry wrote way more than anyone gave him credit for.

35. I lived in Bloomington, IN when Kenny was a music student...
...at IU. He lived in an old house across the street from the student union building called the "Roach Hotel". On nice, sunny afternoons he'd set up his drums on the lawn (Dunn Meadow) in front of the union building and practice for hours.

34. This guy right here...
Josh Freese, who has the worst birthday you could possibly have (December 25--because it's Jesus' birthday, no one remembers that it's yours too), is mainly a studio drummer but he's also in Devo, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle and The Vandals.
