Brilliant Du'ers: Can i have some help on my assignment
I need to find a company that has inititated a program to motivate employees, e.g., an employee recognition program or bonus program.

If you know of any, including yours, can you let me know?

i need to analyze the program but i am having trouble finding one.

1. Tried your local supermarket?
Almost all supermarkets have those, and generally they *love* to talk about it too.

2. Investment banks and consulting firms generally motivate through bonuses
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 04:46 PM by Rabrrrrrr
General Motors, and many corporations that have factories, also have incentive programs for their factory (non-salaried) employees if they offer suggestions to help run the plant better, or make a product better.

Employee incentive through bonuses might even be a hallmark of the fortune 500 companies - good way to keep the talent.

The consulting firm and investment bank I worked for even offered the merit bonuses, and merit-based raises, to secretaries, IT people, and other "low-level" jobs. I think the consulting firm even gave merit bonuses to the mailroom people.

Consider that your average broker (corporate broker at the headquarters, not a low level dipshit university graduate with a degree in business because he played football, with a remote satellite office) at a firm like Morgan Stanley or Lehman Brothers or Goldman Sachs might only make $100K in salary, but get $4 or $5 million in bonuses. That's a hell of an incentive to do well.

3. The Military has several bonus programs...
...Selective Re-enlistment Bonus - An amount paid to someone on their re-enlistment, depending upon their job and occupation
code. Can be anywhere between $3,000.00 to $75,000.00.

Assignment incentive pay - Paid to individuals who agree to take orders to a "difficult" place. Can be anywhere between
$400.00 per month to $1500.00 per month.

Language Pay - Paid to individuals who show proficiency in a foreign language. Usually about $225.00 per month.

Sea Pay - Paid to anyone while they're deployed or attached to a ship. Around $200.00 per month depending on rank.

Sub Pay - See Sea Pay.

Flight Pay - Paid to pilots and flight crews. Around $175.00 per month.

Hazardous Duty Pay - Pretty much speaks for itself, huh? $275.00 per month.

About a million and one other types of "bonus pay".

4. Hi lionesspriyanka,
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 05:56 PM by ohiosmith
Several years ago I developed an employee recognition program at the real estate company I worked for.

It was called "Catch Someone Doing Something Right".

Each manager and supervisor was issued $1,000.00 cash to distribute in amounts of $20.00 to $100.00 to any regional employee that they observed performing a duty or service that was not typically considered a function of their position e.g., a Security Officer cleans up a spill or an Operating Engineer provides a tenant or visitor with directions.

Additionally all employees were given pre-printed forms on which they could nominate other employees for cash awards.

During the year that the program was in effect, we distributed $40,000.00 to 80+ employees. Our internal customer satisfaction survey scores increased from 2.6 to 4.8 on a five point scale and our external customer satisfaction survey scores increased to 5 from 3.2.

The program was discontinued when I left the firm.

Hope this helps.

8. Try Yarde Metals:
http://www.yarde.com/

I'm not sure about "motivational programs" specificaly, but they treat their employees REALLY well (they even have a nap room)...I'd bet they have some kind of innovative program. And they seem to be very good about talking to the press about their employee programs, so they would be pretty likely to talk to you.

10. Smooches received and enjoyed, thank you. I can't tell you who you should talk to at
Yarde Metals, because the founder / former owner isn't there anymore, but just call and talk to the receptionist. I'm sure you'll get sent to the right person.

And for my own company? If Mrs R does a good job, she gets taken out to lunch every Wednesday. If her work level slips, she gets taken out to lunch every Wednesday. If she does a REALLY lousy job, she gets taken out to lunch every Wednesday.

THAT will motivate her, yes?

12. I know where that is. Big motivator is Profit Sharing.
In Southington, CT? Or do they have multiple locations? Anyways the one in Southington is down the street from work for me and the employees come in from time to time. Not often as they have a cafe on premises.

They do have an incredible program, I know a few people who work there. Nap room, they have a kennel/play area so you can bring your dog to work to play with during break-times, they have a basketball court and play area. Use of facilities for the employees during non-work hours. Fitness center. Also, amazing profit sharing. (This is very motivating. One guy I know got $4K for a bonus at X-mas. He's not management either, skilled labor.)

Basically, they make a point to treat their people right but hold them to a very high standard.

13. That's the one. Their programs work damn well for employee loyalty; the Hartford paper
inviewed one woman recently who is 51 years old had has worked there for 30 years.

I was an independent sales rep for them for about a year in the early 1990s, and I can tell you that their customer service was superb.

15. I wish you the best, but have to say
yuck to this kind of thing. Corporate motivation to buy and become better consumers. Be a better corporate employee - win a prize!

Sorry. Couldn't help it.

16. Oh, and Walgreens would be opposite of this
When I worked there, at our basically-mandatory All-Store Christmas bash, the managers took us out to a steak dinner at a nice steak place..... that we had to pay for whatever we ate or drank. Yep, making $5.00 or so an hour, and they basically forced us to go out for the Christmas Bash at a place that cost me about 5 hours work.

I own a lot of stock in Walgreens because they always make a lot of money because their employees get fucked.

(When I worked at the consulting firm in NYC they took us to Cipriani's for our Christmas bash, and let us bring our significant others, and had open bar with high end booze (I had Sapphire Martinis all night) to the tune of about $150 a person - cost the Firm about $100,000 for that one night. Their holiday bashes were always beyond excellent; the office retreats were even more incredible)

17. My husband was employee of the month at his army post once
There wasn't any money attached to it, but he got the "special" parking spot.

We found out why it was special. When it snowed, they plowed the parking lot and jammed all the snow up against his car. When he tried to pull out, he ripped the bumper a little cause he couldn't fit through their snowbanks. Cost us a $500 deductable.
