Feeling Really Bad About the World's Animals Today.
So many discouraging reports lately. I guess there always are but it just seems worse now.

All the African Animals are in danger because of poaching and civil war. Members of one of the rebel armies were killing the gorillas and eating them.

The animals in Borneo are all under threat due to deforestation. Habitat is all being burned up. The Oragutans are being killed by the fires and by the farmers.

Melting has caused problems for the walrus pups - the water is too deep and the adults are abandoning the pups to go off to places where they can find food.

Sharks are being wiped out all over the world.

It just goes on and on and on. Sure is nothing for the human race to be proud of.

1. It is getting worse.
I feel with you. On the other had I still drive a car and have to. You are right - that's nothing for our race to be proud of, but not for the single individual, either, using bleach and coloring toilet water and using printed toilet paper (when we were kids we had a ridiculous song about "toilet paper with flowers" - the very idea seemed so absurd) and whatnot. At least that's something I'm not guilty of.

2. I don't know that we can do much to control Africa or China or
Borneo.

We have some serious animal rights issues right here at home. But I don't think we come close to the things going on in a lot of the 3rd world countries that are being ripped apart by warfare.

3. I think differently.
You say "I don't think we come close to the things going on in a lot of the 3rd world countries" - hm...
Of course a slaughtered elephant or gorilla looks hideous. But it's the industrialized countries' emissions that are causing the real harm. And the worst is the climate change. It's US that are causing it.

Still I feel unable to change anything about it - other than use low energy lamps, no bleach, no printed toilet paper, no liquid soap which comes in plastic containers, trying to avoid plastic altogether as far as possible and the like. And love and respect and try to help those animals that live close to me.
