6. Is racism more socially acceptable in the UK than here?

I mean here it's an absolute no-no. But I get the sense Brits are more tolerant of racism and xenophobia, considering it less of a social disease than a personal idiosyncrasy or curmudgeonliness. Where do I get this sense? From BBC comedies, mostly, but also from personal observation of British friends saying things most Americans wouldn't dream of saying about race, ethnicitiy, nationality, etc.

And the reason I'm asking this, is I'm willing to bet British right wing fora are more free and upfront about their members' racism than US winger fora.
