NASCAR doing something right!
Some of the more jingoistic rednecks (note: not all fans are rednecks) seem to be turning on them, based on the sign from the local Right-Wing Asshole Gas Dealer a half mile up the road from me that I pass on the way to work:

"HEY NASCAR TOYOTA IS A JAPANESE COMPANY NO MATTER WHAT PROPAGANDA YOU USE"

Some other gems from these half-wit racist pieces of shit who somehow manage to stay in business (don't ask me how):

"IF YOU DONT SUPPORT THE TROOPS GIVE THE TERRORISTS YOUR ADDRESS"

"IF YOURE NOT BEHIND OUR TROOPS FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM"

Then there was one bemoaning the fact that we apparently didn't annex Japan and euthanize the native population, having "forgotten" the "lessons" of Pearl Harbor.

I should start taking pictures of this shit and shaming them online.

1. Have you told them that Chrysler is a German company?
My experience is that red necks appreciate being told about mistakes they make.

2. I'm going to figure out how many Americans Toyota employs
including subcontractors, compared to American companies, and send a LTTE. I'm hoping I'll get death threats if I do that, preferably with racial epithets and insults mispelled badly.

And how that comment puts me on the "same level" as them still makes no sense. Unless you think writing that letter somehow makes me some kind nationalistic racist asshole.

I should have understood that this thread wasn't a serious discussion about NASCAR, just your idea of spreading hate for something you'll never understand.

30. "Spreading hate"
Oh, that's hilarious. Yeah, you got it, I'm "spreading hate." I'm no better than racists who still hate the Japanese because of Pearl Harbor.

As for a serious discussion, I still say adding more manufacturers to the sport is a good thing, and if the American companies can't keep up, tough shit. That's life. Judging from past experience, if Toyoya gets too good, NASCAR will find a way to level the field. They always have.

The others are made in either Canada or Mexico.

What's the big deal?

Just wondering how far he's willing to carry his nationalist feeling.

Oh, sure, it was probably refined in the US, but the oil is unlikely to have come from US soil.

6. There are a couple of legitimate fears About Toyota
That they will overspend their way to dominance in NASCAR as they have in every other racing series and that they won't open up their engine program to the independents like the Big 3 do. Which means ONLY the Toyota team can buy Toyota racing parts from Toyota and no one else. They have also been accused of paying huge salaries to get Waltrip and jarrett with his UPS sponsorship away from Yates Racing.

It doesn't sit well with NASCAR fans (intelligent or otherwise) how they are conducting business.

I mean, I know he's not the BEST driver, but I think he's kind of had a bum rap.

Ralfie? On a cosmic level I feel sorry for him too. I'd sure hate to be Michael's younger brother. But, his attitude makes it harder to feel sorry for him.

14. Trulli seems over the hill, sadly. In his heyday he had one killer ability:
It was absolutely goddamn fucking impossible to pass the SOB.

Barrichello lost the chance to win a GP in a Stewart because of just that. Got stuck behind Trulli. In a Prost. (spits)

15. I can only assume since I don't see some replies
But leveling the playing field is very important to NASCAR, and this isn't F1. Remember years ago when Toyota was using exotic racing fuels (including benzine and toluene) in the F1 cars and almost destroyed the series due to overspending?

9. Then NASCAR will have to do something like the NFL
to prevent them from becoming the Yankees of NASCAR.

I take the optimistic view that if Toyota starts dominating, the Big Three might start innovating and making better racing engines to keep up.

12. NASCAR rules prohibit innovation
Overhead cams and fuel injection are verboten to keep competition, safety and inspection equal. I'd LOVE to see a ZO6 engine with a Vortech supercharger on a NASCAR racer, but 1000+ horsepower would overcome the aerodynamic capabilities of these cars and make for an interesting demolition derby.

40. The Big Three don't actually make racing engines
NASCAR teams have two ways to get engines: they can build their own, or they can buy them from one of the megateams that sells engines like Hendrick Motorsports or Robert Yates Racing.

I have no idea where Toyota's engines come from.

I kinda wish NASCAR would go to engine leasing, like the IRL and CART do. In those series, they put an engine in your car when you arrive at the track, they take it back at the end of the weekend, and if it needs work one of their mechanics does it. It has basically eliminated engine-related cheating. And it can't be much more expensive than having to run a complete R&D program.

24. There are a couple of dozen independent teams which fill the back of the field every race.
If the spending gets out of control, those guys go away and you have 20 car fields every race.

19. They are far more interested in competition than NASCAR
NASCAR is like that asshole father across he street who never let his kids play with anyone and kept them indoors even on hot summer days because he was afraid of them getting "bad influence".

Just like the Fundies. Yeah, no Jews in NASCAR either, and ONE African-American.

Yeah, that's the ticket, like the Fundies they worship.:dilemma:

21. no one else mandates cars like NASCAR
the regulations in NASCAR are the strictest of any motor sport (which is why innovations don't come out of the sport like they do from F1. F1, you will recall, gave us the debut of clutchless transmissions, anti-lock brakes, carbon fiber brakes, electronic fuel injection, and others. NASCAR wants it to be about the drivers, not the cars. the illusion they want to maintain is that you can go down to your local chevy dealer and buy a car like Jeff Gordon's (does he drive a chevy?) which is absurd.) still, the drivers matter more in NASCAR than in other series.

23. Speaking of "buying" that special car
Last year was the FIRST year since the Eighties when you could get a real V8 in a Monte Carlo, but it gets DROPPED after this year as the (ahem) 2-door Impalas replace them. Someday those 2-door Impalas may be available (to the public) again with rear wheel drive.

NASCAR bullshit doesn't mirror reality in the automotive world.

38. For this reason alone...
...it seems that NASCAR is a colossal waste of money for the manufacturers - hundreds of millions of dollars for dead-end technology. I don't think it's much of a coincidence that NASCAR's ascent to popularity parallels the general decline in the fortunes of American automakers. Now Toyota is going to be dragged into that gutter.
