I hurt myself today,to see if I still feel
Ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

2. your opinion --cash's version is some of the most powerful
stuff i have seen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e0EQlQXoEo

You can run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.

Go and tell that long tongue liar,
Go and tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambiler, the gambler, the back biter,
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down.

Well my goodness gracious,
Let me tell you the news.
My heads been wet with the midnight dew.
I've been down on bended knee,
Talkin to the man from Galiee.
He spoke to me in a voice so sweet,
I thought I heard the shuffle of angels feet.
He called my name and my heart stood still,
When He said "John go do my will"

Go and tell that long tongue liar,
Go and tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter,
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down.

You can run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.

You can throw your rock, hide your hand,
Workin in the dark against your fellow man.
But as sure as God made black and white,
What's done in the dark,
Will be brought to the light.

You can run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Run on for a long time,
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.
Sooner, or later, God'll cut you down.

Go and tell that long tongue liar,
Go and tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter,
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down.

4. NO WAY!
Cash is King!

This is so powerful

his dead wife, his ill health, the song, his life, his impending death.

It is way better than NIN

Cash is King in the Lounge.

7. I'm sorry, but that's simply not true.
No posing preened MTV-creations will EVER scream loud enough
to have the same impact as an old sage who has experienced the
full range of HUMAN EXISTENCE and kept his principles while he did it.

"Hurt" was a good song. But it was never GREAT until -THE- "Man in Black"
blessed it with his attention.

12. I don't understand the question. Have you perhaps confused me with someone else?
To the best of my knowledge, I've never been ANYWHERE
that was commonly referred to as "a-ville".

Spent much of my 38 years in "A-Groups", "A-Units",
and an "A-Wing" or three...but never an "a-ville".

8. Same here- and not just that one.
His last sessions were not "cover tunes", they were god-blessed
REVELATIONS; mind-blowingly awesome translations that grabbed me
by the brainstem and made me appreciate some songwriting that I
had dismissed as utter PAP in my younger days.

I can't listen to "Personal Jesus" without...well, nevermind what.
But rest assured that I can't. And I listen to it a lot.

13. Johnny Cash .. rules!!!
That song / video brings me to tears EVERY time I hear it. It is the most powerful, emotion filled piece I've ever heard him do.

:loveya: Mr Cash
always remembered. RIP.

15. I like both versions.
I saw Trent and David Bowie sing it live together. It was awesome!

I like Johnny's version too. He gave it a whole new light.

It's a beautiful song. Why split hairs? :hi:
