2. I loved it!
Thanks for posting that. That was really sad about the baby that died. It's amazing any of them live having nests in the ground and stuff, wow.

A beautiful story, I love reading stuff like this.

This story about a cockatoo is one of my favorites.
http://www.amazon.com/Charlies-World-Improbable-Adventures-Cockatoo/dp/0967290929

"Charlie was probably kidnapped by a sailor in the Australian outback and traded to an opium peddler in Hong Kong, where he was rescued from abuse by the author. He returned her kindness with 25 years of clowning and instruction in the remarkable ways of parrot kind. He traveled the world with the Topping family and their entourage of children and animals before they settled in Scarsdale, New York. In this suburb he put down roots, as it were, and excavated himself a tree house in the family garden. Along the way he learned to speak several languages including Chinese, English, Spanish and Crow (the bird kind). He was self-educated and acquired his unusual knowledge on a need-to-know basis."

It is about Charlie the Cockatoo. Audrey Topping was in Hong Kong and saw him on the street; apparently he was speaking Chinese words and when he saw her, starting speaking English words to her without any prompting. She was so taken with him she bought him and brought him home to live with her family. Unfortunately it has a sad ending, but he has lots of adventures along the way. (Yes, I love animals stories, lol.)

6. yep, I didn't see it coming
and it was sad that it ended up being on the daughter's birthday too. Charlie was amazing. one day I would like to have a Cockatoo but I've heard that they are very delicate and get sick very easily; I don't know if that is true or not.

7. I haven't heard that they're prone to health problems any more than any other parrot, but...
...I do know that they're one of the most gregarious breeds, and therefore need a LOT of attention (they're prone to self-mutiliation from loneliness and depression more than probably any other parrot). If I ever reach a point where I'm working from home, I want one.

8. Probably the African Grey is the most prone to health problems,
but 'toos are notorious for being difficult when their situation doesn't suit them. A protesting 'too could put an air raid siren and buzz saw to shame. Like the little girl with the curl, when they're good; they're delightful companions. When they're bad ... well, they're very bad.

9. I think the pink ones are beautiful too

This is the kind I would like to have. I didn't know that they were loud like that though. I have friends that have Nanday conures and their call is painful to me when I am in the same room with them.

10. Conures are for their size the champs, but a 'too in a
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" mode is literally unbearable. Worse, they can keep it up for hours.
