Restless Leg Syndrome
Could it really be so bad that you would need to take a prescription drug? They have commercials selling some drug to fix it.

1. I have it, and yes, it can be that bad
I am not on a script for it, but some nights I think I should be. Especially when the RLS creeps up and makes my arms restless too.

3. Sorry to hear about your RSL. I think I have it too, but the only one
it keeps awake is my wife.

5. That must be a common thing about it. That's when I get it too.
I wonder if exercise helps?

10. I used to get it bad.
I would have to get up in the middle of the night and exercise to try to get some relief. Then someone told me that chromium picolinate could help. It took a few weeks to get the effects but it did help and I'm not bothered with RLS any more. Maybe it was a coincidence. I don't know. I have no proof it was the chromium but as long as I'm not bothered with RLS I won't stop taking it.

2. MrSG has it.
It's especially bad when he gets tired. He's not on meds for it -- says he already takes enough stuff for other things, he doesn't want to take anything else.

7. I thought only I had it
until I saw the commercials. I didn't get a drug to help it though, I just lay on my stomach to keep my legs still.

9. Absolutely!
What most people don't realize is that it is a sleeping disorder, and when your legs get to crawling and you can't sleep because of it, other health maladies are sure to follow.

Anything that messes with your ability to sleep is SERIOUS stuff.

13. Do you have these issues?
Is there a support board here on DU? I'll have to look. I've got both insomnia and anxiety. The hardest bit for me is that the medications for anxiety exacerbate the fatigue from not getting enough sleep :-( it's a terrible cycle.

16. Yes, I do.
I have no idea if there is a support board or not, but it seems like it would be a good idea. At this point, I am on a daily anti-anxiety, anti-depression medication, and I use Ambien for very bad sleepless nights. I try to avoid using it every night.

17. I can't sleep at all w/o Ambien
Even with it I can't get a full night of sleep. It's scary though because I've done and said things that I don't remember later. Thankfully nothing really dangerous like driving or leaving my house but I have done stuff like cooking and my kids tell me that I say weird things. Now I no longer take it until I'm actually IN bed and there hasn't been a problem. Still, scary stuff.

12. Absolutely

You may not realize that it's keeping you up but it could very well be that you're not fully awakening with the movements but it may be preventing you from entering the deeper stages of sleep. It's actually something that is measured when you have a sleep study. It may seem like a trivial thing but the resultant poor sleep quality affects your health and safety in many, many ways.
