Post something shocking about yourself
that others wouldn't know and might surprise them.

Mine: I graduated from a Catholic high school seminary. Taught me all I know about douchebags.

6. I was a "homeland security analyst"
Emergency management response analysis, design, and simulation came under purview of DHS after 9/11. All of a sudden folks in my line had to get clearance to look at entire "spectrum of threats". And we got skin-quilting new titles to make up for the lack of raises, etc.

but my sorry behind can't get arrested. Went to a small Catholic Uni. Can easily recite the alphabet backwards, even when unsober. Qualified for Mensa, bored by all the test-taking. Competent poet, enjoys writing fanfic. Lit major--working in accounting. Vice president of my college choir--not a bad singing voice I have. Like children--no maternal instinct. And I cannot operate a cheap Bic lighter. can't--arthritic thumbs will not make the little plunger strike the flint just...so--very frustrating, and why I do not smoke to this very day.

20. FBI and Secret Service

....have visited us.

The best was the Secret Service, I had 2 small children and I was babysitting my infant niece when they paid a visit.

My niece was screaming and I handed her off to the agent to help my son in the bathroom and my niece vomited on the agent...all over his suit. It truly was a thing of beauty. BTW, Secret Service agents don NOT have a sense of humor.

Cheers

24. I had 2 Chicago policemen pull their guns
and point them at me while screaming that I put my hands on my head.

When they demanded I get out of the car, I asked them how exactly to do that with my hands on my head.

Chicago police have NO sense of humor, whatsoever, none, not a bit. I was pulled out of the car and tossed against the wall and patted down by one while the other still had his gun trained on me. They asked if they could search the car. I said sure. In the trunk was my Rickenbacker guitar in it's case. "What's in the guitar case?" he asked. "A guitar." I answered. They checked.

It was a drug deal thingy and a case of mistaken identity. Went around the block a couple of times while looking for an address and a parking spot, and the cops were looking for a car in the area that matched mine.

Of course in was the 16th district, known in the 70's for pulling this shit all of the time.

Cheers

167. I had a similar experience when I was 19
I had recently hooked up with a buddy from years ago, went to his apartment and got exceedingly drunk with him and his friends. As the hour wore on, everyone else passed out - I remained awake but drunk off my ass. In my stupor, I decided I might like to drive home and sleep in my own bed, rather than crash with a bunch of dudes I barely knew. I slipped out of my friend's apartment and made my way to my car. I think at that point, I was having second thoughts about the wisdom of driving 50 miles home in my inebriated state and had opened the passenger side door with the intention of grabbing a tape I was into at the time and taking it back into the apartment. Suddenly from all around, sirens! Lights!! Police vehicles pulling up to a screeching halt next to me!!! Men in uniforms screaming that they were police and to put my hands behind my head and lie face down on the ground!!!! The horrible sense that weapons were indeed trained on my hapless ass!!!!!

I soon found out that the cops had been alerted to the presence of a prowler in the area, and guess who just happened to be, as they say, in the wrong place at the wrong time! Needless to say, I complied as quickly as I was able and had enough presence of mind to stammer to the cops that I wasn't "prowling" (true) and was just retrieving a tape from my car (half-true, since I actually had at least some intention of operating a motor vehicle shitfaced). Upon the mention that I was just visiting a friend, the skeptical cops instructed me to locate the apartment my friend lived in. Shit! I was drunk, I hadn't been paying real close attention to which building I had just come from and, of course, all the damned apartment buildings looked alike! By some miracle, I actually managed to locate the right apartment and was then fortunate enough that the friend of my friend who answered the door remembered who I was and let me in! At that point, I abandoned all thoughts of venturing from my buddy's apartment till morning, which was just as well since I was far too drunk to even be thinking about driving.

And that was the story of the FIRST time I ever had gun pulled on me (and no, I am not a criminal with a record who regularly runs afoul of the law!).

46. Three months ago, I had been a stay-home mother for 8 years.
At that point I started a little 6-hour-a-week job providing daycare at the gym, for which I would be paid poorly but receive gym membership free.

Astounded to find myself needed - and somewhat in my element - I was asked to take more shifts and accepted the hours. Now I'm working fully half time with 20+ hours per week.

I'm not a SAHM anymore.

I'm a PTWOHM.

And what I've discovered about myself is that I hate these labels. I'm still the same wife and mother I was three months ago; I just do more other stuff too.

196. I had one attack me once.
I was in a PE class in my last semester of college (I was 32 when I finally graduated!). I was waking up about 4:30 in the morning, driving to a suburb of Dallas, catching the express downtown, working 2 hours, catching the bus back to the Park and Ride, driving to Denton, going to class for 4 hours, then driving ALL the way downtown, working til midnight and driving ALL the way home to Denton (about an hour's drive).

The freaking bastard branch chief MADE me do this schedule because he didn't like me, hoping I'd quit. After only a month of this insanity, I was in the weight room in PE, and was so exhausted, I collapsed on the treadmill. My head hit the belt, and it kept rolling.... Ka-THWUNK- uh ta,Ka-THWUNK- uh ta, Ka-THWUNK- uh ta, Ka-THWUNK- uh ta. I had a mild concussion.

I quit that job three days later, made it through the rest of the semester, and graduated with a 3.75 average.

So Gary, if you're reading this, imagine my middle finger.

I was struck by lightning when I was 15 or 16 years old. Most interesting thing that's ever happened to me (and I've had some very interesting things happen).

Knocked me clean off my feet and landed me on my back about 8 feet away. Not a burn or a mark on me, no doubt because it glanced off the electric fence wire just above my head first. No pain - heard sort of a loud BANG then the next thing I knew, I was on the ground.

I've decided that's how I want to die - quick, painless and everybody will remember me.

Oh, and I've never been able to wear a watch since then. They all die within a couple of weeks of my putting them on.

But I later stopped going: first because it was boring as hell to me as a teenager and young adult, and later on for those same reasons you listed (among others).

If I ever go back to any church, it'll be a UU church. I've gone a couple times. Seemed like great people with similar beliefs and the sermons were fantastic. I'm just a terribly reluctant joiner of anything, but I'm getting better at it. I'm kind of cautiously taking a communitarian turn in my outlook, so it's a possibility.

119. Arrested for domestic violence. Put both of us in the paddy wagon.
My boyfriend (dead now and loved him for 23 years in spite of it all) kept me up playing music on a work night so I threw a boom box at his head. He teased me in the paddy wagon and the cop told him to leave me alone. I was put in a holding cell with a prostitute who was asleep and flew 3 feet in the air when the flush from the toilet woke her up. The charges for us were thrown out when we went for counseling. The cops called it "The Boombox Incident". I am glad it happened...I think everyone should spend time in a holding cell. Not fun trying to sleep in an ice cold concrete cell with no blanket! boo hoo poor me.

122. I've got really bad anger issues, and a rudimentary knowledge of anatomy.
That latter admission means I know several efficient ways to kill a person, including the proper way to break a neck. Hint: It's nowhere near as easy as the movies/TV would have you think, unless the person's asleep or completely relaxed. You're better off opening up the carotid artery, jugular vein, or femoral artery.

And no, I'm not trying to brag or sport an e-penis. It's not a good combination, especially since I repress my anger, and I'm worried that someday I'll kill someone over something petty.

for carrying a concealed weapon.
I have a conceal carry permit and have carried one for so many years I simply forgot I had my ankle holster on when I went in the building.
They dragged my ass to the basement and questioned me for a couple hours. Ultimately they ran my background and confiscated the pistol, escorted me and my wife to the edge of town and let us go. I really thought I was going down on that one. Hell, the capitol cop told me there was a $500 per round fine. I was carrying ten.
DC doesn't ban weapons, but they do ammo. Go figure. Some of the dumbest gun laws I've ever heard of.
