Before I go utterly mad, ask me anything!
My seven-week-old has been awake and fussing for over 18 hours straight. In that time he hasn't even blinked, I swear.

Post your questions quickly, before my brain oozes out of my ears and I lose the capacity for verbal communication and am thereafter fit only to run on the Republican ticket...

6. No thanks--he's fussy enough aleady. Colic would only make it worse
Hardy har har.

He's not that fussy--just wide awake and super-fidgety, so that we can't hold him and we can't put him down. Standard baby-stuff, I know.

But in case this goes on much longer, I've prepared a shallow grave in my basement, so that I have a convenient place to crawl into and bury myself.

7. Have you got a sling?
Sometimes that helps.

2. Does he stop fussing if you pick him up?
Have you anything that will rock him to sleep while you get some rest? I remember those days.

I am so sorry about your baby!

I was going to ask you something about my story, but upon reading your post, I won't!

He will stop .....soon, I hope......

9. Thanks for your understanding and the kind words!
Outside of polishing up my resume, I haven't written a word of fiction in many weeks!

I should count my blessings--he's healthy and gaining weight at a good pace. I just wish that I could figure out why his eyelids don't seem to work...

4. Does your baby have colic?
My niece had that...my poor sister tried everything....after 2 or 3 weeks of it, she finally gave up orange juice. Yep, believe it or not, it was the acid in the mother's milk. Strange, how something you may never suspect could cause that....but, then again....I don't have any children, so I can't offer much more than that. I can offer you this little tidbit: This too shall pass. In fact-- my sister now denies her daughter ever had colic at all!! My other sister, the nurse, says that's common...parents often "block it out"! Natures way of preserving the human race, I guess!

Hang in there!!!

5. Colic.
Have you tried a gas remedy or come tummy massage? Sometimes a warm bath helps too.

If it continues, suspect allergies.

8. I find that if I beat my head with a rubber mallet, it helps
We have him on those no-fart-drops with every bottle, and the tummy massage quiets him down while we do it, but when we stop he flies immediately back into fussy-mode.

10. We went through the mylicon drops like they were going out of style
Eventually we figured out LeftyKid had some food allergies, some he later got over and some he didn't, but life got easier when we worked around them.

Might want to ask the ped about changing formula. Some kids just don't do well on one or another.

11. Do you have a swing?
Or what I lovely refer to as "The Greatest Baby Invention Ever". Both of my kids have milk allergies. My son's was so bad that I had to cut out all dairy to nurse him. That swing saved my sanity.

15. And now my three-year-old just tumbled out of bed
While moaning "no no no" in his sleep.

Fortunately, he didn't awaken, and I was able to replant him in his bedding.

I tell you, it's a wild time at the Orrex household tonight.
