Why not color, this is 2003 and red is prettier than gray!

3. The panoramic view camera
isn't deployed yet. We're just getting litttle dinky webcam-equivalent pics at this point. But they're still MARS pics!! Yay!!

4. machine isnt fully deployed
when the machine is fully up and running in a few days, then we start to get color pics. I believe they will also be coloring these early pics as well.

5. Color Requires A Lot Of Radio Bandwidth
The black and white photos are from the low gain (low bandwidth) antenna. As soon as the high gain (high bandwidth) antenna is deployed, color should be possible.
