Animals and small children KNOW.
I've always been a pet person- raised from childhood with a dog or cat at my side most of the time, I guess I developed the affinity. Now, due to the nature of my work I'm constantly going to people's homes, and I've often found myself trying to work on a computer while dogs and cats happily make me their instant friend. Dogs bring me slobber-soaked tennis balls for me to try to steal from them. Cats leap onto my lap and pass out purring. Although I've had one or two dogs growl at me, I've never left a house yet without being able to put my hands on them and get them to wag their tails.

This affinity seems recently to have crossed over to small children. Twice in two weeks I've suddenly discovered small children attached to my legs- the first time I was working in the gymnasium at a preschool when a four old Shirley Temple clone casually detached herself from her group of friends and crossed the room specifically to lovingly hug me. I'd never seen her before in my life. (Unfortunately, she being a child I did not know, I knew better than to reciprocate the affection. More's the pity we live in a world where we can't return spontaneous gestures from children.)

The second time was when I went to my girlfriend's house late last week. I had no sooner walked in the door when a five year old niece of hers I had never met ran up to me and wrapped herself around my legs! (At least with her I was able to return the hug without anyone calling the cops and accusing me of pedophilia.)

I haven't made up my mind yet if this "gift" is a curse or a blessing. In a better world it would definitely be a good thing. I like kids, I just don't know what seems to make it so easy for them to make such an easy connection with me!

Oops- gotta go. My cat wants me to pet her.

1. Yes it's true
I'm a dog person.
I once went to a lady's house with a group of people. She had a large English Sheepdog.

This dog climbed in my lap, slobbered all over me, and ignored everyone else.

I got up, ran to the sink and attempted to wash the dog slobber off my arms, because I was breaking out in a rash from it. I'm very allergic to dogs and cats and wool, and anything with fur, I guess.
The hostess was very embarrassed but there wasn't anything she could do.

Have you ever seen a person call a dog, and the dog runs away?? I have. My ex brother in law did that, and he was a mean sumbitch. I never trusted him, and the dog heading for the farthest corner of the backyard just confirmed my suspicions.

Never trust a politician who holds a baby, and it starts crying.
Notice the diff between pics of Clinton with a baby, and Little Lord Pissypants with a baby.

2. My brother in law had a cat that hated him.
She adopted me instead, and became mine. Unfortunately one evening she went out onto the front porch to sit for a while, and she disappeared. I looked for her all over the neighborhood for two weeks before stopping. I still get depressed when I think of her.

3. I've had several people tell me...wow I can't believe that child won't leave you alone...
..they don't usually like strangers...I think it's because I pay attention to them...talk and play with them...and their parents are usually gettin' on to them for bothering me...when they aren't..they're just bein' kids..I just chalk it up to my positive attention vs. the negative *discipline* from their parents at the time.

4. We have something in common.
Children like me. Babies look at me (I've heard it's because I have a symmetrical face) and wave their chubby hands. I have long conversations with friends of my seven-year old and I am a "second mom" to a number of my teenage daughter's friends both male and female. I don't know for sure why I am liked but my guess is it's because I genuinely like people and they can sense it. That, or I smell like chocolate. :P

6. LOL. You may be right.
If that's the case, it's a natural gift nonetheless because I don't either like or eat chocolate.:hi:

7. That happens to me too.
Animals gravitate to me, as do kids. Over New Year's weekend, I was visiting one of my sisters. We were at her next door neighbor's house, and his daughter, who had a 4 month old, was there. The baby was in her little swing, and I sat down in front of her. She started smiling at me, and jabbering to me. Her mother told me she had never done that with strangers before. :7

Oftentimes, when I'm out shopping, or at a restaurant, kids just start talking to me, or playing "peek-a-boo" from their booths. I love it.

8. My husband is like that.
All animals and small children gravitate to him.

I love our pets, and they love me. However, they like my husband best. It is OK. I think they know he is a good and kind person.

When my nieces and nephews were small, they always hopped all over him. Of course, our kids love him, too.

My sister-in-law had a sheltie that was shy around everyone. He would always hide. After my husband was in the house for a few minutes, the dog whined and came over to him, wagging his tail. Everyone was amazed.

I would worry about being in a relationship with someone who was hated and feared by children and animals.
