monkey videos from costa rica
hey folks....help me pick out a good digital video camera so i can start making high quality vids of the wildlife on my costa rican rainforests. i need something fairly economical that has high quality optics and a powerful zoom (not a digital zoom).

here are some of the monkey vids i shot last week on and around my property in golfito:

squirrel monkey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqN27JTBC5c

howler monkey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udB1SGf_SDg

these could have been great videos if i had been using something other than my nikon digital camera. i really need a digital video camera.

1. Hi Gato,
Happy New to You!

I love your videos of the monkeys!

You live in an amazing part of the world, it's
so beautiful.

Even with my limited knowledge of cameras, I've had very good
experiences with Sony products. My son bought a Sony
camcorder years ago that took great videos, at a
reasonable price.

I know DU has a photography group.
You might ask them, also.

Good luck and happy ( video) shooting!

:hi:

3. Buy a used Canon GL1
If size and weight matters its not that great of a camera but the optics are great. I had one for a few years and loved it but its just too big for a vacation/backpacking camera. I sold it to my son's roommate who is video production and bought a Panasonic gs500. I'm pretty happy with it since it is also a 3CCD camera and can take 4 megapixel stills.

Nice videos of the monkeys

Love those videos man. I'm working on getting down there. Might be coming with a guest, too. :)

5. white faced cappuchins throw a lot of stuff......
....never saw a howler throw anything. they're the least intelligent of all the monkeys here. all they eat is leaves so there's not a lot of protein for brain development. the white faced cappuchins have the most varied diet and even eat meat (smaller monkeys) and seem to be the most intelligent and curious.

sounds good that you're working on a trip.
