Songs we're ashamed to like or love.
I don't know why but some very old nostalgic songs have been popping in my head. Maybe it's because I dare to believe that some positive change is in the air. Anyways, here are the ones I'm ashamed to admit:

"Everything is Beautiful In its own way"

and

"I've Got the Music in Me" by Kiki Dee.

And yours?

17. So...going to the rodeo is the whole purpose of the song?
Well, they always say it's the journey, and not the destination that counts.

making fun of the (usual) country song lyrics. My dog died, my wife left me, my truck is a piece of shit but life is good.

oh yea, and square dancing is lame!

Well it's 40 below and I don't give a ****
Got a heater in my truck and I'm off to the rodeo
And it's Alabama left Alabama right
Come on ya fuckin' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage ya god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya fuckin' jerk get on my nerves

Well here comes Johnny with his pecker in his hand
He's a one ball man and he's off to the rodeo
And it's Alabama left and Alabama right
Come on ya fuckin' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya fuckin' jerk get on my nerves

Well it's 40 below and I don't give a ****
Got a heater in my truck and I'm off to the rodeo
And it's Alabama left Alabama right
Come on ya fuckin' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage ya god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya fuckin' jerk get on my nerves

Well here comes Johnny with his pecker in his hand
He's a one ball man and he's off to the rodeo
And it's Alabama left Alabama right
Come on ya fuckin' dummy get your right step right

<"Alabama left and Alabama right" can be changed to "'allemande left and allemande right">

46. It's allemande
the lyrics were never Alabama, unless it's been covered since and changed. :hi:

I remember when the song came out...I was visiting Alberta (where the band originated) from Toronto in 1979? 80?, and had to get my older brother to buy the album for me. I was too young and the store wouldn't let me purchase it (I was 13).

13. Oh, Lordy, deep dark secrets right before Christmas?
Okay, but don't laugh or ridicule me. I'm sensitive about it. (Not!)

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "Afternoon Delight." And I have fond affection for "Rythm of the Saints." There, I've said it. Just between us friends, okay? Wouldn't want to ruin my reputation as a connoisseur of classical music and well written novels.

41. My ex was figuratively and musically the telephone man. Honest, he
worked for a major phone company for 35 years and there wasn't anything he didn't put the moves on throughout his "career." I found out a little late in the game but once I did, the ex part.

44. Now you gone and done it
I looked up the lyrics:

I went to my apartment on a Monday at one
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky bum, shicky bum
Started movin' in it on a Tuesday at two
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky do, shicky do
Wednesday at three I called the phone company, singin':
"Hey baby, put a phone in for me"
Thursday at four he came a-knockin' at my door, singin':

"Hey, baby, I'm your telephone man
You just show me where you want it and I'll put it where I can
I can put it in the bedroom, I can put it in the hall
I can put it in the bathroom, I can hang it on the wall
You can have it with a buzz, you can have it with a ring
And if you really want it you can have a ding-a-ling
Because-a hey baby, I'm your telephone man"

Can you believe that? And then he says:

"Now when other fellas call ya tell 'em how it all began"

Well...can you imagine?

My heart began a-thumpin' and my mind began to fly
And I knew I wasn't dealin' with no ordinary guy
So while he was a-talking I was thinkin' up my plan
Then my fingers did the walkin' on the telephone man

Singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Get it any way you can
Right? Ha ha ha, so...

I got it in the bedroom, and I got it in the hall
And I got it in the bathroom, and he hung it on the wall
I got it with a buzz, and I got it with a ring
And when he told me what my number was I got a ding-a-ling

A-singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Just-a doin' my thing

Ha, ha...I've never done anything like this before!

5. Lilliburlero.
A rather famous put down of the Irish Nationalists and now the BBC theme. Being the grandson of a fervent socialist and hater of the Brits...well, my dear old lamented Irish Granny would roll in her grave if she heard me humming "Lilliburlero". Great tune though.

15. Irish Grannies.
I use to lurk on an irish newsgroup and it's funny what some people find amusing. Someone apparently went back home to Ireland and introduced Parmesan cheese to the family, except the granny heard it as "Partisan Cheese." Well, the Irish newsgroup was howling for months over that one. Maybe you had to be there.

So I've been told, Lynard Skynard was never racist. It's just the element that likes the confederate flag for the wrong reasons, that decided to adopt it as theirs. I say we co-opt it back.

My daughter played it before a major competition and her performance came up short and she was disqualified. I never thought their music was upbeat and blamed her frame of mind for listening to what sounds like music of defeat.
