One of their deals is called "accident forgiveness." WTF? Now I have to seek forgiveness from a fucking insurance company? "Oh please Mr. Almighty Wise and Merciful Allstate. Please forgive a poor sinner like meeee."

It'll be a cold day in Hell before I start looking to a crowd of insurance scum for forgiveness.

7. Maybe Karl Rove is dabbling in commercial advertising?
Soon blenders will leap up and tear your nose off...

Cat litter will kill children from noxious fumes...

Shampoos will cause radiation poisoning, etc. etc. etc.

8. It wouldn't surprise me.
Bush is falling farther and farther into the rabbit hole of unreality. So, hey, add more fear! Try to keep the masses down.

You mean it doesn't already? Or maybe it's just mine. My cats have had a bad attitude the last couple of days.

11. True but...
Reminding people how dangerous the road can be is not what I would consider fear mongering. Automobile accidents are something everyone can be afraid of every day, and should be.

I know the most effective demonstration I saw was put on by my high school acting ensemble the day before senior prom. They put two smashed cars on the field, put all the kids in makeup and prom dresses and what not. Had a couple play dead. It left a lasting impression and is always on my mind on the road.

Being afraid of car accidents is one kind of fear I really think does keep us safe.

5. Me too. They seem to be saying...
..."Go on! Be a distracted chucklehead who's more interested in yakking endlessly about drivel instead of paying attention to what's going on around you. We've got your back. You can crash as much as you like and, while the other guy in the cheaper car might end up as raspberry puree, you'll be fine."

As if there aren't enough oblivious assholes on the roads already.

18. Well put. In one of them, two women are critquing the commercials and one says
"I just think they went too far" the second before a car smashes head on into her passenger door.

Excuse me while I :puke:

10. I kinda hate them too
Except that, I think there is a lesson to be learned in each of them. While they present very normal driving conditions, I think each of the accidents, while maybe not avoidable, gives the viewer somwthing to think about.

14. I like them.
I'm weird that way. I hate most other commercials. That's one fo the few car commercials that actually has some relevance to the product it is advertising.

16. As someone who survived a head-on collision.. I want to sue them...
for distress. I simply cannot watch them and every time one gets by me if gets to me.

I really won't sue but I wish they would have thought about people who may have a bit of post traumatic stress in their lives over a horrible car accident. Seeing those crashes brings up some horrible memories I'd rather not have to relive.

They should be banned.

17. No one needs to see that. Even worse for crash survivors!
The commercials are manipulative and disgusting at the least-- and traumatic at the worst.

Scumbags.

23. I so agree with you.
they can make the same point about their safe cars by showing a scene after the fact and everyone is ok or something.

No need to put people through the actual violent crash. Volvo got their safety message across without all that crap.

Scumbags indeed.

21. I completely agree, nini!
I have been in two serious car crashes (in both, I was rear-ended from behind at a high rate of speed while I was at a stop). I have permanent injuries from both wrecks and those Jetta commercials really upset me. I have to turn the channel as soon as I see one come on.

22. We turn the channel as soon as we realize it's one of them
I too have permanent injuries and I'm lucky compared to many people who have experienced worse. I really don't understand why they didn't stop to think of how it may affect the many people who have lived that nightmare. Marketing at its finest I guess.
