Web designer/web master- a quick question please?
I have a monitor with a native resolution of 1600x1200, I have it set for 200% font sizes. 99% of web pages I visit are displayed correctly and I can read everything perfectly. Every once in a while I will find a web page that seems to be all overlapping and blocking text. It is near impossible to read/use.

Here is the latest site I have a problem with;
http://www.tradersbrain.com/

Is this just an example of poor design or something else?

1. I'm looking at it in 1024 x 768
and it looks fine to me. However, I've seen sites like you're talking about and found that some of them are just designed for one browser and in anything other than that one browser they look like shit.

2. Not bad in Explorer 7 and Firefox w/large system fonts
I'm used to broken designs, but this one is okay with the latest browser versions I tried.

3. They set the text size too small. The problem is not on your end.

4. This is a problem with using pts instead of em...
I doubt that made sense. I'm trying to fix my fucking iPod right now. I'm running a bit short on patience. I would normally try to give a better answer.

5. Their biggest mistake
is using absolute positioning.

Page elements remain in the same position regardless of the font size and the overlapping occurs.

It looks like the designer of this site used a WYSIWYG tool (Webshop) to create the site.

It takes a lot of energy and effort to design for all possible contingencies (browser version, platform, screen resolution, differently abled users, font size etc.).

I know because I teach Web development.

6. Thanks for all the replys.
I wanted to send them a complaint to tell them why I can not use their service. I even changed my resolution and I still can't get it to display correctly.
