Eragon: The Movie,,,,
will suck.

That's all.

I won't debate the books, though I personally think they are a bit lack-luster as fantasy books go.

The movie however, will be horrible.

Evidence #1: It's a fantasy movie, based on a book, made by Hollywood.

Evidence #2: It has Jeremy "Kiss of Death for Fantasy films" Irons in it.

1. The movie looks tedious and derivative.
The book was monstrously bad - the most boring book I've ever read. I've been through law school.

Derivative does not have to mean it sucks. Most fantasy books are similar to Lord of the Rings in one way or another. But these books are neither fun nor interesting.

I was not surprised to find out that these books were originally self-published, and then pushed on unsuspecting consumers as some sort of miserable follow-up to Harry Potter.

3. Ugh.
My 10-year-old loves the books and is expecting to go to the movie on opening night.

I'll have to get my partner to take her.

5. The author was 15 when he started writing them...
reading it with that in mind helped.

I agree about the film. I saw the preview tonight with the kids. We will be seeing it but damn i hope it is not as bad as Narnia. Don't think i could stand to sit through another of those.

9. How the hell did he get published, anyway?
Novelty factor? I wouldn't publish anything I wrote at 15.

8. The book is pretty good, I think.
It has some "rough spots" - sure - and a bit tedious in places - but an interesting story line and characters. (I didn't like the 2nd nearly as much, though. :( )

It's immensely popular with the pre-early-teen set. (It has DRAGONS for g's sake!!) My son, just turned 13, is re-reading Eragon in anticipation of the movie release.

We're eagerly awaiting the film. And the boys are already talking about the computer game, too.

11. Isn't that the one w/ Christian Bale?
Everything's better w/ Christian Bale in it!

(and I just found an image w/ him from that movie!)

13. Why yes it is.
Christian Bale and Matthew McConnaughy.

Excellent dragons. I'd post an image, but still photos don't do them any justice.

14. It's a good movie.
I like dragons so having Christian Bale and dragons in the same movie? That was too much for me to handle!
