Santa Clause Banned From Kindergarten Classrooms

VIENNA, Austria -- Ol' St. Nick is getting nixed in Vienna, Austria.

Local officials are banning Santa from city kindergartens.

Councilwoman Grete Laska said Santa Claus sends the wrong message to children, who are told not to accept gifts from strangers.

She said kindergartens may hold Christmas parties, as long Santa is nowhere in sight.

Other officials said the ban is also prompted by concern the rotund, bearded fellow will frighten youngsters. But opposition leaders contend the Santa ban is an example of political correctness gone too far.
