1. turkey in the oven first thing in the morning...
I've already made the spiced cranberry chutney, will also have a waldorf salad, sweet potato casserole (Ruth's Chris steakhouse recipe) and lightly breaded/seared asparagus (not for casting, but for eating :P ).
Then we have a pecan pie and vanilla ice cream.

Just me, husband and cats but we'll have a nice dinner.

Your meal sounds wonderful, I hope you enjoy!

2. Ooooooooh.....Waldorf Salad? I love Waldorf Salad!
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 01:59 AM by TheDebbieDee
Eat a big serving for me, please!

BTW, for dinner it will be myself and my two daughters (I'm VERY thankful for them) and whatever stary relatives show up.

Usually, we go see a movie on Thanksgiving Evening, but this year we'll stay in and hopefully witness the Chiefs beating the Broncos!

3. Does the green bean casserole
have the french fried onions baked in on top?

If so, will you marry me?

4. I am wondering if my mother will call soon to see if I have the turkey in the oven
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 06:44 AM by Vorta
There is little wondering to it. The woman is obsessed with turkeys being cooked forever. She can't help herself. She'll call "just to say good morning" hours earlier than she ever calls. Then she'll sneak up on the subject of the turkey and when it went in the oven, and how long I plan to keep it in the oven. She always overestimates the cooking time by at least an hour. I love her. I wouldn't deprive her of this call. My part in this play is to get up before God so that when she calls the bird will already be in the oven.

Oh, side dishes. We have edited the menu for some years now=

Turkey/gravy
sweet potato (mom only)
cornbread
dressing
cranberry sauce
sweet potato fluff
pumpkin and mincemeat pie
coffee

Today is not the day for a well balanced meal or lo-carbing.

6. Smoked turkey sounds good!
I'm taking a break before I get the bird in the oven..we're not eating until late today. We're having fresh kielbasa along with the turkey.

My sides are:

smashed garlic red potatoes (new this year..I hope they turn out ok)
broccoli/rice/cheese casserole
california blend casserole
stuffing
dinner rolls
whole cranberry sauce

and for dessert..several choices
peanut butter pie
oreo cheese cake
pecan pie
Pumpkin pie

and of course, there will be plenty leftover to send home with the kids.
