Why are there domed stadiums for football teams?
Why isn't Green Bay in the rotation for a super bowl?

Why can't pitchers in the american league hit?

Why aren't there performance clauses in athletes contracts? (the kind that say if you don't hit X homeruns relative to X atbats we will take away a million; or the kind that say if you don't get X sacks based on X attempts we will give that part of your salary to your favorite charity - please feel free to add the etcetras.)

Why aren't there more day games in major league baseball?

Why can't the winner of USC-MICH play the winner of OU-LSU?

Just a few questions for a Monday afternoon.

1. I can only answer the second one.
Pitchers in the National League can't hit either.

Pitchers just can't hit.

Interestingly enough, on HS teams, the pitcher if OFTEN the best hitter on the team.

2. I respectfully choose not to accept that answer
National league pitchers have a lot of time for batting practice; they don't take advantage of that time.

6. They don't want to risk their precious arms.
Pitchers USED to throw MUCH more frequently than they do now.

NOW they need their precious rest time to bring their arms back on line. Can't go screwing with the mechanics by putting in too much muscle memory of the wrong motion (swinging a bat).

For the comfort of the fans in certain wussy cold weather cities (cough minneapolis cough.)

I've never met anyone who when they thought of Green Bay thought "hhmmmmm that is where I would like to go for a vacation in the dead of winter"

They are paid too highly to risk and most average fans like the extra offense you get out of the DH.

There are for most athletes though they are upward clauses rather than downward.

Fans work.

The entire BCS system is stupid. It should be turned into a mirror of the NFL, with divisions and conferences based on geography which ends in a playoff system. Too damned bad if this punishes teams in tougher divisions. You don't hear Red Sox fans clamoring to get out of the AL East do you? We hate the Yankees which will make defeating them that much greater when it finally happens.

4. Weeeelllllllll....
- Some teams have domed stadiums to help draw more fans. In some places, like Minnesota, it would be difficult to fill the stadium when the weather is bad. With an indoor stadium, the fans can show up assured of being able to watch the game in comfort. (Other places, like Green Bay, have fans that are so loyal they would fill the stadium even if it's 20 below outside.)

- The league is afraid the Packers would make it to the big game and have too big of an advantage over the opponent.

- Because the players union wants a DH, which allows some guy who can't field the ball worth a crap to have a place to play.

- So players who get hurt a lot, but MIGHT come up with a full season once in a while (see Fred Taylor of the Jags). P.I.s allow the team to sign the player for less money, but allow the player to get more, if and when he actually plays.

- Because most people have to work days and want to go to the game.

- Because the NCAA sucks!

5. The answer to most of your questions - $$$$$.
Why isn't Green Bay in the rotation for a super bowl?

>$$$$ - Because of cold weather, attendance might be down, host city gets less $$$$, league gets less $$$$.

Why can't pitchers in the american league hit?

>Because they are weenies.

>They might agree to that, if ALL industries go along with that.

Why aren't there more day games in major league baseball?

>Once again, $$$$$. Bigger TV audience at night.

Why can't the winner of USC-MICH play the winner of OU-LSU?

>Dunno. Seems like they could make more $$$$ if they did that, huh?

Here's my question - Will Donovan McNabb acknowledge Rush in any way if he wins the Super Bowl, and is named MVP? Would be a great opportunity to heap more crow on his plate... I predict DM would take the high road, and not mention it. He has class.

7. I Hope the Eagles
win the Super Bowl and Donovan is MVP and not one word of limbaugh is mentioned after the game. Maybe he will be in jail by then. Limbaugh is a lonely, pathetic, friendless human being. Just to hear his name mentioned in any light is a siren song to him. Yes, Donovan has class. Limbaugh never had any. Thanks for the feedback.

8. Why indeed...
Because people who can scrape together $300 to take a family of four to something you can stay home and watch for free don't like getting rained on or cold.

Because no one wants to go to Wisconsin in February.

Because watching the pitcher strike out repeatedly is no fun.

Because no one would sign a pro sports contract with a performance clause in it.

Because people work during the day.

And because it's the BCS, man, and "common sense" doesn't have B-C-S in it.

10. Dome Envy
Why the hell a city like Atlanta needs a domed football stadium is well beyond my ken. The only thing I could figure is New Orleans got one so Atlanta's taxpayers were told they had to pay for one too.

11. Why do football players wear
such tight pants?

Why would grown men run up and down a field for several hours once a week with a ball?

Why isn't Dr. Pepper available in all restaurants everywhere?
